Translations of linked articles

Should I include links to machine generated translations when I link to content in languages other than English in a comment? These days, usually a pretty decent machine translation is available by right-click or offered automatically by your browser when loading the page. I used to add a link to Google Translate every time, but recently stopped, as it started to feel a bit redundant. But what do people think?

Metafilter has translations of a newly rediscovered poem by Sappho

You know how we get excited when a lost episode of Dr. Who gets rediscovered? As described in this thread, two new poems by Sappho have just been rediscovered. Bromius and languagehat have made provisional translations of the new "Brothers Poem." As far as I can tell, this makes Metafilter the best place on the web to go for translations-in-progress of the new Sappho. (sidebar?) If you have training in Aeolic Greek your help in this ongoing translation project would be appreciated. [more inside]

MetaFilter localization?

Has there been any discussion of setting up a localization effort for MetaFilter, at least for UI and other site elements? If not, what do you think of the idea? (My search-fu didn't turn up anything previous in the FAQ or MetaTalk.)

Thanks a lot, Tower of Babel

I'm working on a post in which I'd like to use a certain article that provides useful and interesting background information, information I can't find anywhere else. Unfortunately this article is a PDF file... and in Spanish. [more inside]

Google Translate Frontend

I seem to remember an fpp about a webpage that acts as a google translate frontend. It supposedly makes translating quickly between languages a bit easier. Does this sound familiar to any of you?

if you can't speak the language, don't.

I've noticed a weird variation on the I-don't-know-the-answer-but-here's-a-wild-guess syndrome on AskMe: in "help me translate this" questions, people who quite clearly don't speak the target language still offer their awkward, ungrammatical or just-plain-wrong translations. [more inside]

Localized weblog services?

Pick a language, any language.

LiveJournal has added support for its users to translate the entire site into other languages. Translation teams have formed for over twenty languages, with more on the way.

Are there other localized weblog services out there that anyone is aware of?

Translation of the French article about MeFi linked on the sideblog

Re: The article in French, linked on the sideblog.

Don't take this as a perfect translation, I've only had 4 years of French (in an american public school, no less), but here's the first paragraph of that article.

Last February 28th, the earth rumbled in Seattle, USA. Even before an urgent dispatch came across the news wire services, a net surfer wrote on the american website Metafilter: "I'm sitting at work in the Real Networks building. We have just experienced close to a minute of jostling and shaking. There is now a six foot crack on the wall of my office. Looking around, nothing appears to have fallen over, but there are crowds of people on the sidewalks." This web surfer relayed the news, like every day on Metafilter, one of the most significant american "Web logs".

Any updates on the status of metafiltro.com?

Any updates on the status of metafiltro.com? I understand that you aren't really involved in it Matt, but since subte.com, whose people apparently are, doesn't seem to work, I didn't know where else to turn.
