User number bug
26434 members | You are logged in as: dersins / logout
it's been stuck at 26434 for an awfully long time, hasn't it?

Here's a little bookmarklet that tells you the average user age contibuting to the thread.
So I keep noticing thousands of new usernames in comment threads (which is awesome), and I got to wondering about how user age/contribution patterns were evolving on a threadwise level with the new users settling in. Being a non-statistician, I didn't care enough to perform a serious study, so I just threw together a little bookmarklet that tells you the average user age contributing to the page. It's totally worthless, but a bit of fun.
Did anyone else noticed the membership count changing in the blue?
Did anyone else noticed the membership count changing in the blue? It seemed like it dropped from the 17000's down to 16896.
Can we reopen registration? (11/6/03)
Lockdown: Year one. This comes up every so often, but today is the one year date since Mefi closed its doors to newcomers so perhaps its a good date for a thread on the policy and its continuance. What have been the effects? What will be the long term impacts of continuing the policy?
Also, as one of the late entrants, how come I still don't know why my user number if bigger than the total number of users and how do I do little writing in posts? And why isn't 'Mefi' in the spellchecker?

User number thread
What's Your Number? Got bored and found out the comments for a thread that is my user number is this. Is yours a fun thread or are you one of the dreaded 5 comment losers?
Talkin' 'Bout My G-G-G-Generation
The 10K Generation, to which I belong, being member 10947 of September 3, joined MetaFilter between August 1 and September 5 2001, just before the 9/11 influx, and is currently enjoying its second anniversary here. Does each generation, according to how and when they joined, have its own personality? Mine, I would say, judging by a quick survey, is moody, quiet and difficult. What's yours like?
Where do I find my member number?
sorry to ask what I'm sure is a stupid question. Where do I find my member number? I'm trying to sign up for the CD swap and that field is required. I've looked high and low, and I'm stumped.
Member count discrepancies
It appears as though the member count on the front page of MeFi does not accurately reflect the number of members. The most recent member seems to be 14212, while the member count is only 14041. While that is certainly a pretty palindrome, why the discrepancy?
Should I be ashamed of my 13k member number?

Usernames and user id numbers
Recently I've found myself passing the mouse cursor over usernames only to see their ID number. I was thinking for a bit as to why (Is it number envy? Is it newbie-spotting?) What if the user IDs were somewhat to completely hidden? What would be the pros or cons?
Adding usernumbers to profile page suggestion
Minor suggestion: how about adding the member number to the profile page, or informing members about how to find it?
I know it seems minor, but I never knew where to find that info. And with the member numbers starting to come up in the discussions, I started to wonder: "Where do I fall into this ranking? Am I more of a newbie or an old-school vet?"
It took me several minutes of poking around MetaTalk (lurking for the answer before I post the question, y'know) before I figured out how it's done.
(Note to new folks: mouseover the link to your profile page, and it will appear in the link shown in the status bar.)
And, by the way, I'm #481 -- which I think qualifies me to say I was into MetaFilter back when it was cool. :)

Remove user number from username links?
Would it be useful to change the username links from:

I just think it's a bit unfortunate to see someone's rank being used to judge the usefulness of his or her argument.
