Can we add Google Talk to profiles? August 24, 2005 3:23 PM Subscribe
Now that Google Talk is up and folk are digging it, can additional messenging service fields be added to the profile customization screen, beyond AIM and ICQ?
Is there any way to make a link to auto-launch those apps? (does skype://foo launch skype?)

The only complication is that MSN id's are email addresses.

Has anyone been unable to get into GoogleTalk from iChat? I get as far as the false security warning box, and then when I approve sign on, I am instantly disconnected. Connecting with Airport and a Verizon DSL

Not yet, since Google doesn't (yet) support the server2server protocol and the GTalk client won't connect to non-Google XMPP servers.

You should have multiple drop-down boxes with the services, so it shows up seamless on the profile page. That way there's no clutter in the end, and everyone gets what they wants. As long as we're talking VoIP, can we add a SIP option too (user@sipserver) ?

mathowie, the current AIM field doesn't display AIM addresses that contain an @ symbol (.Mac account names appear in the AIM service as user@mac.com). If you plan on updating the code, could you add the @ symbol to the list of acceptable characters for that field?
