metafilter.com Domain Name not Resolving October 2, 2005 5:13 AM   Subscribe

The metafilter.com domain name seems to be dying. It resolves if I access the internet one way, but not if I use my other connection. Here's proof it's not just me.

What's your proof there? I see a bunch of piddly errors probably to do with changing to utf-8 encoding format. the only time I had trouble resolving the domain was when Matt moved the server from some closet in Massachussetts to some closet in a Pakistani madrassa.

I'd bet your trouble has to do with the difference between "one way" and the other.

The domain name is registered through March 2009, so that's not it.

I think it's just that our Bulldog DNS is down a lot, for reasons unknown and unmatrelated. Try doing the diagnostic test on the Zoom when things don't work.

Was the W3C validator unable to reach the site before? Because it can now.

I note also that Netcraft has not confirmed

Well earlier, the w3 server was reporting it couldn't resolve www.metafilter.com.

That is indeed proof, unless it somehow uses our connection to download the site.

In Soviet MetaFilter, Netcraft confirms you!

I need to move the DNS over to another machine, which I'll do this week.

Zone edit is a great place for extra nameservers. :) [first four are free!]
