Would it be possible to add a "There have been X new threads and Y new comments on MetaTalk since your last visit" to the MetaFilter page?

too much processing.

I'll revise the ones on metatalk itself, but it'll still require you to come over here to see it.

The "right" way to do it is in a client, and not in a server. For example,
the browsers maintain info about whether or not you have "seen"
the link. When these things move to XML-based world, we should
be able to maintain "Seen" info independent of the server.

On second thoughts, the "Seen" info should be in an independent server (i.e. not the one that provides content) and browsers can use this service to keep track of seen info. (Note that "New threads" and other related info can be derived from seen info.)

It is work. And all the more if you want to see some standards to be adopted.

rodii! I meant coming over to MetaTalk to see it, which is such a pleasure, not Matt's work. ;)
