Personal Fantastic Post Viewer? [mi possibly available after a few minutes]
posted by onalark to Feature Requests at 11:28 PM (6 comments total)

Just to add to the crack-like nature of Metafilter, it would be nice if when I flag somebody's post or comment, they are notified in some way. It wouldn't be too hard to make a 'personal' version of the Fantastic Posts/Answers page on AskMetafilter. I don't know how good of a thing this would be outside of AskMe, but I do know that within AskMe, I continuously read answers that make me want to high-five the poster, without going all the way to email.

Please let this not be by second double post to Metatalk.

I think this is a great idea.

how do you high-five someone over the Internet?

I like this idea. Appreciation is always nice. Like when you get moderated up on Slashdot.

I've said too much.

This is a terrible idea.

It encourages stunting: pandering to the crowd to get applause.

The way MeFi is structured now, one's main reward for providing good commentary is more good commentary.

Anything that substitutes for that reward will result in a net loss to MeFi.

This is why it's a good thing to put your email address in your profile. Shoot 'em a quick high five by email, right after you craft your witty, thoughtful, well-informed comment.
