FeedRinse is a wonderful tool for filtering web feeds that are produced by multiple author May 22, 2006 6:25 AM Subscribe
I'd like to point out that FeedRinse is a wonderful tool for filtering web feeds that are produced by multiple authors. It filters out posts if they contain certain terms. I've already created a couple of MeFi channels. This one filters: pepsi, israel, religion, newsfilter, congress, fitz, rove, federal, eff, google and perjury. This feed filters the terms I've outlined already, plus the words 'iraq' and 'apple'. And this Metatalk feed filters the following terms: video, flag, dios, spoiler, delete, chatfilter, pony and editorializing. I thought about adding the term 'ban' to that one but sometimes those posts are *too* entertaining.
Hmmm...I may try this out. I take it that this is customizeable? I have been using the MondoMeta Greasemonkey script, which is great, as you can continually add key words (like Iraq or YouTube or Iraq or Diebold or Iraq) to filter out posts.

It is kind of ironic that I first saw FeedRinse mentioned on BoingBoing where it might be useful to filter Disney, subway map anagrams, Xeni...

*throws up*
Okay, I'm back! Israel! Religion! Federal perjury!
If you're reading this.... suckah! And if you aren't, wussuckah!. The best way to be protected from everything that might upset you is to stay in bed all day... or, if you insist of getting up, definitely don't visit any community sites. For real.

So let me get this straight, you make filters to remove qualitatively bad posts. Then you filter out the Metatalk threads that might be created in order to police against the bad posts.
Out of curiosity, what happens if I filter myself out?

LarryC, yes it's customizable. It's a free service if one chooses to filter a few feeds.
taz, I read a lot about all those things that are upsetting or informative, it's usually elsewhere. Metafilter does not mix well with that stuff...

I stare at a blue screen all day long until once every few years someone posts a web site dedicated to scanning your cat.

It vaguely inspires me to make a really great post about a religion that features rove -ing people from israel who engage in sexual congress on federal land, who's leader, named Fitz -roy got indicted on perjury for lying about the oversized spoiler on his pepsi blue ferrari after being caught in iraq with contraband apple -s and a pony.
It would have to be labeled as Newsfilter I guess, and I would make sure to include a spoiler to their low budget recruitment video (as hosted on google natch) would be included showing the organization' sflag waving. Too much editorializing would inspire dios to label it chatfilter and in a dramatic turn of events it will be delete -d because I used the video illegally and not even the eff will help me.
Heck, perhaps I'd even get ban -ned

I got a shiny new nickle for anyone who can rig me up a thingamajig that will prevent my many, many bon mots and pensees from appearing on the screens of members who I deem unworthy and unappreciative of my undisputable geniousosity. A PearlsBeforeSwineFilter, if you will.
Really, that's the next logical step, isn't it?
Get in on the ground floor now!
It'll also make it easier (and safer!) to lip off to and sass Ironfi$t Mehthowie and that jessadmin (Dickin' The Chicken? Classy.) person.
