Perhaps campaigning for December favs in uncouth, but this is an awesome post. Best part: "The Guardian has a gallery of 10 of the works; here are links to all of them."

Come to think of it, it is uncouth. But this is a great post among many good ones as of late. With three weeks to go, as of now this guy deserves an i-Pod mini at least.

Good thing it's not rockabilly.

wait, what's this about december favs?

If he wasn't drunk when he posted it, I vote for deletion.

Yeah, this is uncouth and silly, but if we're campaigning: y2karl ftw.
posted by languagehat at 5:39 PM on December 7, 2006

Yep. This is a blatant example of an FPP with too much goodness in it, akin to the apalling FPPs of great music videos by y2karl. Hopefully Number One will squash this and set an example for all the people who think that linking to lots of great stuff will be allowed here.

yeah, man. he left out the dogs palying poker and the naked woman on the side of a van. what's up with that?
posted by jonmc at 5:42 PM on December 7, 2006

Seconded. Art, like beetle larvae, is something everyone can appreciate. But is there any way to filter that list for works with exposed breasts?

It's a bit of a shame that it takes bribery to bring the quality posts, but hey, if it makes Metafilter more better, then why the hell not?
posted by stavrosthewonderchicken at 5:51 PM on December 7, 2006

I'm drunk posting this right now... Wait. That's not true. I'm at work and bored. Which is actually the antithesis of being drunk :(

kirkaracha post was excellent though. It's going to be an interesting three weeks if people are going to try to top it.

MetaFilter: The MacHeist.com it's okay to like.

This is uncouth and classless, and I can easily see this campaigning thing turning very ugly very quickly, resulting in Matt decreeing "No More Contests".

Besides, it wasn't that good.

Links to works by Francisco Goya and Jackson Pollock in an art-themed post? What's next, including Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash in a rockabilly FPP?
posted by Alvy Ampersand at 6:00 PM on December 7, 2006

Or links to youtube clips of renditions of Baby Elephant Walk.

Or a .gif of a dancing squirrel playing a harmonica.

I guess I need a sockpuppet to avoid bullshit from the usual suspects, but this was hella better than random youtube linkage. And you know it.

I'm going to go cry myself to sleep now knowing that some of the biggest dicktards here don't like me. QQ.

I was trying to give props to an excellent post. Nothing more. If I'd known I'd further fuel your obssesion with me I might have reconsidered.

Honestly Alvy, what gives?

Bardic, do you seriously believe I'm following your every MetaMove® while twirling my mustache and biding my time for the perfect chance to strike?

You're a bit of a loudmouth, and I'm an asshole who can't pass up an opportunity to take the piss. MeTa's a small place, so it's only natural that folks are going to run into - and have run ins with - the same people on a regular basis.

Honestly, there's no reason for you to be afraid of me.

Though it is kind of flattering...

nola, meep: that's not me. That's my drinking buddy Tennessee Sam. I just like posting that pic when people are arguing pointlessly as a gesture of frustration. I'm the guy in the middle here.

It's kind of blondish, so in strong light it looks like I drank some milk and rolled around in the dirt.

Also, I drink a lot of milk and roll around in the dirt, which doesn't really help matters.

That list seems awful focused on Western art.
posted by Eideteker at 7:22 PM on December 7, 2006

Honestly, this post was much more interesting to me than either kirkaracha or y2karl's posts. I had no idea about how this part of history intersected with women's health and botany, while most of us have probably heard an Elvis track or been to an art museum in our lifetimes.

Besides being the nameplate on some tiny cars in Beijing, what is the significance of "QQ"? Is it one of those emoticals all the hip kids are using, or what?

It's December 7th. Maybe we could wait a few weeks before we decide what the best post of December is.

Unless you're Hiro Nakamura and you're just saving us a bunch of heartache. In which case, thanks!

Heh. FTW always means 'Fuck The World' to me at first glance, after subjecting myself to this crapalicious straight-to-video cinematic offering way back when.

what is the significance of "QQ"?

Well, I personally am QQ for Quoqqo Puffs.

Aw, shucks, it's an honor just to be nominated. And I was at work (which doesn't necessarily mean I wasn't drunk).

kirkaracha fucked the what?
Upon the advice of my counsel, I respectfully decline to answer that.

he left out the dogs palying poker and the naked woman on the side of a van.
I regret it error, and I corrected it.

heh. glad to know I'm not the only one. I was real confused for about 5 minutes when I first encountered it in the other sense. I still read it that way because it's awesome and makes me less of a nerd*

*frankly i need all the help i can get.

Can I post Tennessee Sam to that thread too? The rest of you can post him as well. I think he's got a good chance of becoming the next Ceiling Cat.

I like the Silphium post and the the Guardian art list post despite the latter's list's omission of the Great Altar of Pergamon.

After getting his second DUI, my next door neighbor had to have a breathalyzer attached to his car's ignition. His car has to smell his breath before he can start it. Maybe if we had something like that here we wouldn't need a working spell check function 'cause we wouldn't have as many people misspelling words like obsession or playing.
