Could the mouseover text for the number of favorites show the usernames of the favoriters? December 15, 2006 7:36 AM   Subscribe

When you hover / mouse over the [+ 2 favorites] text, you see more text that says "2 users marked this as favorites" Would it be useful if the pop-up text actually showed the usernames of those who favorited it? Small pony i know, only saving a few mouse clicks, but i think it would be cool. Any thoughts?

I'm "meh" on the idea, but this post is an example of why this might not be a good idea without some tweaking.

yeah, maybe a limit for where the number of favorites is greater than 234. But for most comments that are favorited 1-3 times it could be useful to be able to be able to have a very quick look-see.

Again, i know i'm only saving a few mouse clicks, but i just thought i'd ask. If its too much hassle to implement then so be it.

A few? Don't you mean you're saving one mouse click? This sounds like a better Greasemonkey script than a use of Matt's time. Not it.

Well strictly speaking then, two clicks. One to click on the favorites link, and then one to click back to the original page. And yes, i did think of greasemonkey, if someone does that then super.

Surely this would mean either doing an extra query for every single comment, or a join that brings back a vast amount of data, on large threads. Seems like a hugely resource-intensive solution to something that's not really a problem.

You're talking about MetaFilter now, right?

what matthewr said. It'd be a drag to do another table lookup just for an occasional mouseover use.

It should also tell you why they marked it as a favorite, what the weather was like where they were when they marked it as a favorite, and what the probability is that they will unmark it at some point in the future.
