Eurofilter. Next year I think there should be the mega UK Metameetup of all time for Eurovision. You up for it?

Ha -- great idea. I wonder if we could get it sidebarred here for the whole of the next 12 months.

I might be working in Poland next spring, and the first thing I did after seeing Serbia win was check if I needed a visa for a weekend trip to Belgrade!

oh hell yeah.

If I happen to be in the UK then hell yeah.

Dresscode mandatory, though.

That would be worth building a summer vacation around! Maybe Meltdown will pick up again next year - if the timing works, *there* would be two events that would make a fantastic vacation.

As in, to, like, get together and watch it on TV?
posted by chrismear at 3:57 PM on May 12, 2007

Yes, chrismear, a theme party, either at someone's house or, probably better, a pub that's showing it - preferably some sports bar that has 25 plasma screens around the place.

Or in Serbia.

I wonder if we could get it sidebarred here for the whole of the next 12 months.

That Portland meetup will be in the sidebar until 2009.

Is this something I would need a European to understand?

I'll come, but only if we'll do this.

Gotcha. Sounds good.

I'll go if you guys all dress up like Lordi.
posted by miss lynnster at 4:33 PM on May 12, 2007

I always dress like Lordi.

And I always dress like Bucks Fizz, but I don't go around making a song and dance about it. Sheesh.

We don't plan that far in advance. If I did I would just forget anyway. Still, nearly 300 comments in just a few hours. This hit a vein.

And still, no favourites. Strangely appropriate.

I'm in. Maybe we could have a "dress as your favourite contestant" theme?

I've been to Eurovision parties for the last two years. Last year people had to dress up to represent a country (so Germany was a mullet wig, The Hoff t-shirt with a Scorpions back patch, the UK was a lager lout, etc). This year the theme was "F" (for Finland) so there was a friar, a fish finger, a flight attendant, a flasher and so on.

I am currently nursing something approaching a biblical hangover after not getting back home until about 3am. I have no idea what happened in the actual contest but I do remember eating an awful lot of cheese. Which, thinking about it, is apt.

Oh wait, I hate fancy dress with a passion. I might have to reconsider this.

I'll be in Spain, but might have to make the trip over for this. I need to hear Wogan's commentary.

I did something similar to theDonF in Dublin, but without the cheese. I've had a Eurovision party every year since I was involved in organising the one in Millstreet/Killarney. Behind the scenes is just as crazy as you would expect.
Lets' see how the summer meet up goes in my house and I may even be in the country next year to host it!
