Wowee what a fascinating comment. Sidebarable?

And the ever-knowledgable Paulsc (who I am convinced is actually a committee, like R.L Stine) does not disappoint either. I had never realized I had greater than zero interest in air-traffic control until today. This is why I love AskMe.

Yeah, that's a pretty great thread. Everything you never knew how much you wanted to know about ATC but tksh wasn't afraid to ask.

For the rest of us poor trusting dupes who believed your insane swipe at R.L. Stine. I was all like wtf R.L. I mean I never read one of your books but based on the contents of the old Scholastic book-order catalogs from grade-school you were a big fucking kahuna though I still don't understand what all the trash stuffed into those Scholastic catalogs was about or even what the point of a book-order was in the first place I mean I lived in New York, you can buy books in New York; they even have libraries. But I succumbed anyway ooh shiny

Time to re-hide the solvents cabinet key. I fear ol' grobstein has been huffing again.

Maybe grobstein needs some kind of Controller.

R.L. Stine: Hey, I'm a person! I'm a real guy! There's no committee named R.L. Stine!

OK fine. Paulsc is a committee unlike R.L. Stine.

paulsc is R. L. Stine. Consider:

- AskMe thread that mentions 'goosebumps'. paulsc? Present.
- Another mention of goosebumps. And, look!
- Another askme—about books!—and there's paulsc, and goosebumps. Case closed.

Wait, so Roald Dahl is antisemitic, Enid Blyton is sexist, and now RL Stine doesn't exist?

MetaFilter ruined my childhood.

Awesome, awesome thread. But I'm the nerd who gets disappointed when my airplane seat doesn't have the thinger to plug headphones into so I can listen to the ATC guys.

Yeah it was a really interesting thread. Like Methylviolet I never realized how interesting ATC was...

I met R.L. Stein in Mexico. He is a real guy -- kinda nebbishy, in his early 50s I would say, and very friendly.

After reading those threads, I'm positive ATC is for me... if they'd support the research that indicates an after-hours toke is warranted as a means to mellow out the stress of regulating the lives of tens of thousands of people's souls as they chart their way to a remarkably busy strip of asphalt from forty thousand feet in space.

I imagine that much ATC controller interpersonal behaviour is attuned to the preparation fo the one time you really do fuck it up. If you can't handle being harshed-on for making a mistake that did not result in a crash, you're never going to cope with a real fuck-up.

"paulsc is R. L. Stine."

I, apparently, am Urban Hammer. I am not R.L. Stine, but I do get goosebumps from time to time - as when sidebarred on MeFi, for example. Thanks all.

Urban Hermit → Urban Hammer → Unbanhammer ≡ mathowie's archnemesis? And, if so, on which side does the Fact Hammer lie?
