TravMe? TripMe? MeTr? October 17, 2007 9:42 PM   Subscribe

Matt, will Travelfilter ever go live? Or is it going to wither on the vine?

I am just curious about its fate/future. Travelfilter was much ballyhooed back in July but that seems to have been it. If it has been pushed to the bottom of the pile, then so be it.

I'm working on it, and hoping to have it live by next week.

A bunch of coding issues came up and took my last two months of time. We changed servers, updated software, reworked lots of the underpinnings and continue to do that but travelfilter is just around the corner.

Speaking of which, I noticed a while ago that an askme of mine was transferred to travel as well, which is cool, but the travel version doesn't have my follow-up comment at the end. Did the transfer occur between my asking the question and subsequent posting or what?

I think we all agreed it should be MeTr, pronounced like "meter".

“passive-aggressive filter.”

I'll just be sitting here in the dark, with my suitcase packed, waiting for TravelFilter to help me plan my trip. I'm fine, really—this way I have more time to think it over. I'm sure you have many things to do which are much more important than helping me plan my first vacation in thirty-five years. My, this suitcase is heavy!

Thirty-five years, try forty! Hell I have agoraphobia and just getting to the cornerstore for milk is traumatic, especially since I gave up on ordering it from Amazon.

Bah! Forty!

I last traveled back when traveling meant strapping yourself to the tusks of a mastodon. And I'm actually sitting in an airport, waiting for you, yes you, to come meet me and give me a boarding pass so that we can go on a wondrous flying cruise to parts unknown. But if you're busy... I can understand... don't mind me... I'll just subsist on 8 dollar cheese sandwiches and toilet water... no need to worry... no need. No, these aren't tears you see, glistening on my cheeks, but joy, yes liquid joy... I'm just overcome with happiness knowing that one day you'll be here... but no worries... I'll just wait here patiently until we can fly away together... your choice of mastodon, of course.

It's interesting that you were able to order it from Amazon with your condition, since that's still a kind of marketplace, albeit not an open and public one.

Or am I being too literal?
Joke may be stolen.

I'm glad you posted this question – and I know I'm not the only one.

Good of you to take the snark for the rest of us who've been quietly wondering.

TT, I think it is the Canuck in us, many of us are PA. But the joke's on them as we clog their highways and interstates with our slow moving snowmobiles on our merry way to their outlet malls so we can flex our newly-regained purchasing power. Manifest Destiny is not about westward expansion but having a Loonie at par or worth more than the Greenback!
