Commendations + Pony November 7, 2007 7:07 PM   Subscribe

First of all, thank you to #1, pb, et al. for all of the new toys, it's not even Christmas! I'm wondering now, if it's worth the effort (or possible) to include the "Bold", "Italics" and "links" buttons to MeFiMail and much more importantly, to AskMe.

I know the little trick about using a comment box in the blue + copy 'n paste, but I think that, unless it's a little quirk that everyone loves, it would be really useful.

1. There is no HTML in MeFi Mail (it says anything will be stripped right at the top of the new message window)

2. We'll add it to Ask MeFi posting pages and MetaTalk posting pages as well.

Can this be added for Safari 3, now that we're out of beta mode?

et al? Everyone else who pushed, pulled or asked very politely for the various "upgrades" that have been happening.

I'm not so much erudite as luddite, and so don't even belong here at all. But that's what makes it fun!

Thanks Matt!!!

What about preview? Can we get that too? Not being able to edit makes me falafel.

We also need a "translocate comment" button.

You better be adding G/L/B locate buttons at the same time then pal!

One thing that's still missing is the ability to Mefi-mail several hundred users at once. I have a work-at-home moneymaking opportunity that I think everyone would be interested in, you see.

In MeFi Mail? or MetaTalk posts? If you're talking about mail, Gmail, Flickr, and a bunch of other online messaging apps seem to work fine and don't offer a preview. I tend to look over what I've written before I push send and that seems to work fine.

If I catch her gist, I think miss lynnster refers to the infamous hack known as The Page That You Must Get Through to Preview a Comment on MetaFilter. I feel like a harpy jumping in on this point, but the Comment Preview page desperately needs to be brought up to speed with the rest of the site. The ponderous double-checkers and On-Previewers of the site would very much appreciate it.

I just want a wider comment box.
posted by blue_beetle at 7:03 AM on November 8, 2007

Yep, the comment box needs to be set somewhere between 60 and 80 percent of page width.

blue_beetle (again) and Chuckles, if you search back through MeTa a few months—I think it's in a WCityMike MeTa thread—you might find the recipe I use at home (sadly not currently accessible for me) to widen the comment box. It's an end-user thing, through Greasemonkey I believe, but aside from that it's pretty great. I had to tweak the script that was built/linked to previously, but it's a good place to start. As soon as I get the home connection up and running I can link to or post the code I use.

I would also like to thank #1, pb, et al for all the improvements around here. Sometimes I wonder why mathowie, pb, or et al put up with the headaches.

However, matt, pb and et al make it look easy. So in summary, thanks, #1, thanks pb, and etc. etc. et al.

"I just want a wider comment box."

It's resizable. The default size is a pretty lame choice, sure, but if you want WIDER! NOW! you can just resize the thing.

It's resizable.

Not for everyone. I think Safari 3 makes it resizable, but not other browsers. Matt tried to implement a resizable box, but it caused problems for some, so he took it out.

But being able to do this absolutely rocks in Safari.

Funny, I just got a spam with this subject line: "My new girlfriend says I'm not big enough for her wider comment box."

2. We'll add it to Ask MeFi posting pages and MetaTalk posting pages as well.

I was under the impression that the b/i buttons were missing from the new AskMe post page for a reason.
