Better best answers via activity sidebar February 19, 2008 8:21 PM   Subscribe

Pony request: More best answers in my activity sidebar!

1) I can see if my contacts have submitted an answer marked as best. I can see if they ask a question. But it won't tell me if they mark an answer as best. I'd like it if it did.

2) Due to zealous reading I sometimes see questions that I don't know the answer to and nobody has answered yet. I would love to be able to favorite the questions that interest me and then see their best answers (should they be offered and marked) in my activity sidebar. That would be pretty sweet!

I don't use the activity sidebar thing, but yeah, that seems like it would be pretty sweet indeed!

My name is katillathehun and I approve this pony.

Can I attach my own earmark to this pony? The system considers my friends to be dullards and/or losers, as they are rarely able to reach its goal of 10 favorites. While I wholeheartedly concur, I would nevertheless like to be informed of their pitiful attempts at joining in that only attract, say, 5 favorites, if only to make them feel special. We could all then coo over their achievements like so many kindergarten cortexes.

(Current threshold is actually 12 faves, btw.)

And yet every time they add a new contact, that goes in the list. So I have a list of who my contacts are adding as new contacts. Yay?

You can turn off the "Added Others" option on your contact activity page.

That said, I like having it on because folks who I've already made into contacts often display canny taste in who they add as contacts—I'll see that x added y and think to myself, "oh, yeah! y! They don't post much, but I like what they do post!" Bam, new contact.

Oh, well, I'm happy then. I had no idea there were options.

I like cillit bang's pony, too. I just like ponies, okay?

We got options up the yin-yang, my friend.

Also, neither a normally rendered comma nor an italicized comma looks good to me right after italicized text. And when I tried italicizing the comma just to see, I felt suddenly dirty about the structural muddling grouping the punctuation in with the lower-level emphasized element implied. Because that kind of thing is important, dammit.

I am not using any options that have been up your yin-yang.

Oh. RE: # of favorites, the best would be being able to set your own threshold in your preferences for this kind of thing. That would be great. Don't know how hard it would be implement though.

You just need to split the "favorites" checkbox into "12+ favorites" and "5-11 favorites". That'll give users who only hang out with cool people something to untick if they find themselves flooded.

"some favorites" vs "lotsa favorites".
