Is the contact form bugged out? April 20, 2008 5:24 AM   Subscribe

Having problem with the contact form. Don't know if admins got my message.

First I typed the captcha words correctly five times but each time it claimed I failed (I'm pretty sure I got the words right but hey, I do have a fever...). Opened up a new contact page to try again and got this after successfully getting past the captcha on my first try.

An exception occurred when setting up mail server parameters. This exception was caused by: coldfusion.mail.MailSessionException: An exception occurred when setting up mail server parameters..
The error occurred on line 44.

Hmmm. Mefimailing you seemed to have worked just fine though. :)

Yeah, I got your message, and obviously I got the one I was trying to respond to; I have no idea what's going on, but I thought I'd add my little pile of straw to this bonfire.

Say, did you ever notice that our user numbers start with the same three digits?

Weird, and whatever mechanism usually emails us when there's a new MeTa, didn't email us this time. I've noticed a few things that are a little weird today in addition to this [I think my banhammer is broken, for one] so I expect there will be some minor tinkering.

They're selling postcards of the banning
They're painting the Pepsi blue
The parameters are full of exceptions
And cortex is here too
There goes the blind moderator
They've got him in a trance
One hand is tied to the pitchfork
A fish is in his pants
And the riot squad they're restless
They need somewhere to go
As mathowie and jessamyn look out tonight

Jessamyn, You're welcome to use one of my old 24oz framing hammers until the fixit squad can re-arm you. Would you prefer the Waffle Face (when it strikes flesh, it takes some with it) or Smooth?

You know that they say about upgrading the metafilter database...

It would seem... unwise to be publishing that sort of information..

What would happen?

Lando Calrissian: We've gotta be able to get some kind of a reading on that shield, up or down.
Nien Nunb: [speaks in Sullustese]
Lando Calrissian: But how could they be jamming us if they don't know... if we're coming?
[over comlink]
Lando Calrissian: Break off the attack! The shield is still up!
Wedge Antilles: I get no reading. Are you sure?
Lando Calrissian: Pull up! All craft, pull up!
Admiral Ackbar: Take evasive action! Green group, stick close to holding section MV-7!
Mon Calamari: Admiral! We have enemy ships in sector 47!
Admiral Ackbar: It's a trap!

So things wouldn't be much different. That's a relief.

If that's a bad thing, could an admin either delete the IP or replace it with an off-color joke? Thanks!

Languagehat: ten seconds of poking says you're firewalled. It's less than ideal, but no biggie.

I changed it. I'm not quick with the off-color jokes on account of being out in the sun too long.

I miss those days, MPDSEA . . .

[Begins to tell a story]

Way back in the early days, around '96-97, when you installed the AOL client it replaced Microsoft's default TCP/IP stack with its own custom one. A custom one that went several months (years? quite possibly) without a certain cute OOB data error being fixed. I remember being 16 years old, sitting in #everquest on EFNet about a month before release when the channel had 300 people in it, whiling away countless hours with nothing better to do than to wait for someone with a *.aol.com hostmask to come in, whereupon I would immediately winnuke them and watch them go right back out.

Strangest of all, I had a girlfriend at the time.

It strikes me as funny that kids nowadays, in a reversal of the societal norm, have it so damn hard. Shit like that would be blared across the headlines and patched within days - possibly hours.

I miss that Internet.

Thanks, jessamyn! I'll tell everyone I live on Hatimal Planet from now on. (Having gotten roped into a scheme to dig a sandbox for the grandkids, I've been spending some time in the sun and getting a little color myself.)
