VASSAL, anyone? May 11, 2009 12:48 PM   Subscribe

MeFi VASSAL group/directory?

With all of the posts about gaming lately, I'm wondering if we wouldn't benefit from some sort of list of MeFis who use VASSAL, along with some kind of crude matchmaking functionality.

VASSAL is an open-source gaming engine that lets you play classic board games, online, either in real-time or by email. Seems like we oughtta be able to get some killer MeFi Diplomacy or Advanced Civ games going ... anybody wanna play?

(Here's the list of games currently available.)

Would this be the right place on the wiki to add a list of VASSAL users or IDs or screen names or suchandsuch?

I see myself more as a SERF or a PEASANT or even a PEON.

I'm not currently using VASSAL but the games list looks interesting. Put me on the list, please.

It's an interesting concept, but one thing that might be useful would be some information on the games themselves. For those of us who have not played full scale wargames, what's a good starting point? Are there particular ones that are accomplishable in a reasonable timeframe that are a good introduction?

The list given is rather large, and so it's hard to know where to start.

I'm interested, but must second tocts in asking for some kind of introduction to the genre. Otherwise, consider my interest piqued.
