Contact Filters August 17, 2009 11:43 AM   Subscribe

My little pony: On the contacts page, can we have links to filter contacts based on the XFN links we've applied to them?

For example, I would find it very useful to be able to toggle my contacts to see only those whom I've met, or those whom I've espousenated. Likewise, it would be useful to filter people who've made me a contact to see who has applied what labels to me more easily.

Piggyback: Can XFN finally fuck off? Seriously? "Muse" is as close as I can get to my relationship with frenetic?

I will repaste this pony here, again, as it seems more relevant:
the ability to mark a contact as just "Pretty Cool Guy" or something like that. I haven't met/fallen in love with/bunked/worked with or birthed any MeFi user I know of, so I end up not marking them at all or just 'muse'.

Then again, you could just kill of labels for good and be done with the ordeal.

But STANDARDS!

My pony would be a text field next to "met", so I could put where I met them.

These features already exist. Click on any contact type and you will reload the page showing only those contact types. For example, here are your contacts listed as met.

At the top of the page, click the "contacted by" tab to see a list of people who have contacted you. You can click the contact types on that page to limit by contact type. Here are contacts who list you as met.

MetaFilter gets no value since it does not represent an actual person.

Until there's an option where I can mark someone as "they say I'm their spouse, but I'm really not, but I want to keep them in my contact list so I can keep my eye on them, just in case they really are as crazy as they seem and start talking about how they want to staple live-cats to my front door on the next full moon." it won't be truly useful.

I love it when my ponies already exist, frolicking about in their little pony paddocks.

plutor: I just read the gmpg site about xfn, and what amuses me is that this is all for the ref attribute in anchors. Really, it just raises more questions than it answers. I was expecting some sort of xml document at the very least.

There's a double-entendre buried in there somewhere. Something something deep link something something.

bonus points for framing it in context of the rev attribute.

Can we have a field in the contact details where I can check each sexual activity in which I've engaged with each contact? Or at least which base we've gotten to.

Speaking of rev attributes, your spouse's link is so deep, their contact type is "Spelunker."

*gasp*

I am so honored.

I feel like the XFN relationships only attempt to describe real-life interactions. We, as an online community, have developed ways of knowing and relating to each other that transcend the existing contacting vectors (like cyber cephalosex!) and as long as XFN doesn't account for that paradigm shift it'll just continue to be a source of confusion and dissatisfaction. As if I needed any more of that in all of these matrimonies.

He's a nice guy and all, but if he screws up the "buy Microsoft early" plan one more time just to help someone out with a pony request, he's officially barred from Operation: Fuck-You Money.

Cortex, haven't you noticed that whenever you launch Operation: Fuck-You Money, the ponies requested are mine?

*tents fingers*

I'm going to rule the WORLD.

Wow. Looks like my wife and I left the DC 10th meetup too early.
