Fuck Yes PDX! Next meet-up? August 23, 2009 8:45 AM   Subscribe

Fuck Yeah Portland Mefites. Now onto the next one!

So last night's meet-up was fucking awesome (and I'm now ready to give East Burn the greatest wait staff in pdx award). Gecko and I got to talking and, given that the only downside of the East Burn is their antagonism to customers roasting marshmallows on their table fires, the next meet-up could be in my backyard, where there is a fire pit (and, as it turns out, is only blocks away from dersins...)

Gecko and I were thinking September 12th. Yeah, we know its kinda soon, but why the fuck not (WTFN)? And that way we can hold a little candlelight vigil for David Foster Wallace...

Thoughts? Questions? Answers? and yeah of course Cortex won't be there, and we've all gotten a little spoiled here in pdx with the mefi celebrity appearances at our meet-ups, and no it won't be the same without him but we're just going to have to deal...

If you need MeFi celbrities I am willing to be flown in for my standard consultancy fee.

I'm all over it.

This one will require a little more setup as we won't have waitstaff or taps, but we can work that out as either byob or all chip in and make a massive store run.

On fixies.

Heck, at the moment ALL my pants are tight! So I reckon I'm in.

I'll gladly contribute, via money donation and/or by B'ing my own B.

I'm in. I'll happily bring beers. Also, eggs.

Beers and eggs! A new cocktail is born.

#10, Egg Burp ... Lutoslawski must be anticipating a helluva party if he's putting up supplies for next-morning hangover cures.

When is a mefi meet-up not one helluva party? we have hammocks

Hammocks rock, it's the Vibarims I'm worried about.

If there's fire, we can roast things other than marshmallows. Hmmm...

*we have hammock.
Let's not be baiting fisticuffs here..

We also have grill, but it makes things taste like delicious grilled electricity, not smoke.

Personally, I prefer my electricity breaded and deep-fried, but I suppose I'd settle for grilled.

Oh G-d:
10.2 v flying home for my little cousins Bar Mitzvah?! Holy moly, I hope other factors arise. Please, please let there be other factors.

Sounds like fun! Any meetup involving a backyard fire pit gets an enthusiastic nod of approval from me. I'll be out of town that weekend, though, so I'll have to wait for v. 10.3.

Yaknow we were talking about this at 10.1 and whether recurring, low-key "unofficial" meetups would be worthwhile.

I propose the third Saturday of the month, either East Burn or TBD; show up or don't, safe in the knowledge that there will be another one the next month.

What say ye?

Bummer bummer bummer. I flaked out on the 22nd due to training related exhaustion and I'll be in Cali for the actual tri I'm training for on 12Sep. le sigh. have a great time, kids, and roast a marsh-a-mallow for me.

Allow me to introduce you to smoker chips.

Oh, and I second geckoinpdx.

Ok so question: is there a way to give my address to the portland mefites who are coming without putting it on metatalk for the whole world to see? not that there is an assassin out to get me - that I know of...
posted by Lutoslawski at 4:52 PM on August 24, 2009

Anyone who wants to come should send you mefi mail asking for the address; you can respond appropriately.

recurring, low-key "unofficial" meetups

There was some discussion about this at the 10th anniversary meetup as well. A few of us talked about having loosely organized but regularly scheduled "side" meetups, with the option of playing board or card games. I put together one a few weeks ago that went pretty well, in fact. We just made arrangements via MeFi mail/e-mail instead of posting on MetaTalk. Although we talked about picking a regular time and place, that hasn't happened yet.

Socializing in smaller groups is easier for me, so I'd be happy to attend regular "unofficial" meetups. (Any other MeFites who are interested in joining in for the game nights? Just send me your e-mail addy for more details).

10.2? Hell yeah.

For those of us at the mercy of TriMet, I just today realised that 10.2 coincides with the grand opening of the green line, so anyone talking Max should plan accordingly. For you westsiders, downtown will probably be a madhouse.

Rides on the new Green Line (only) are free that day so expect the Red and Blue to be packed with suburbanites looking for entertainment. Yellow will probably be OK but I'm taking the 6 anyway :)
