Football Pick' Em, anyone?
Hello all,
To those who were unable to make it into the fantasy football league, I've created a pick 'em league. MeCha has one too, but this one uses the spread.
It's on Yahoo.

Hope to see all you football fans there!

I predict that the Patriots and Broncos will both come back from behind in the final moments of their respectiive first-week games!

Do the Chiefs have a decent team this year? I'm boycotting football until the Chiefs get out of their slump.

Grand prognostication that will make me look like an idiot in January: both the Saints and the Bills will make the playoffs.

Can you drop the lowest week (or two lowest) since we missed week 1?

I set it up so that it will drop 2 weeks of scores. One of those will be Week 1, and then the next lowest week.

I like it better with the spread, since that means I can pick games I don't care about without even thinking.

I'm in. I've never tried doing pick 'em with the spread before, so I will probably get my head handed to me.

I'd join, but the awkward wait for games to be availble on, uh... y'know. That thing with the bits? That wait has me internet blackouted usually until Wednesday, which messes with my pick 'em availability.
That, plus a freaking tiny bone in Urlacher's hand, combined with Cutler having explosive burning shits into the punchbowl (then blaming everyone else, and acting as if he'd had a great game), after one week, I feel like I'm waiting for basketball season.

Is there a (supported/legal) way to watch games in real-time on the internet?

Not necessarily.
I had a league once (through Yahoo incidentally) and we had a new player that year. He had never played before. The rules clearly mentioned that the spread counted.
By week 6, he was in first place, and there was a game in which the team he picked won (by 1) but did not beat the spread (of 3 points).
Him: My team won but it says they didn't!
Me: [Realizing his error...] What's the spread?
Him: Who cares?
Him: I just sent an email to Yahoo to get it fixed!
Us: [Trying to hold back laughter...] Thanks, man. Let us know what they say.
...
Him: They just sent me a link to the rules. I replied saying I just wanted the score for that game fixed.
Us: Let us know what they say. Please.
...
Him: Guys, the score gets changed by this point spread thing!
Us: [Laughing...] We know. The spread counts. It's been that way the whole time.
Him: Well, how was I supposed to know what "spread" means?
Us: [Laughing some more...] This is the best season ever!
Him: Whatever. I'm still doing better than all of you. Now I'll do even better!
He tanked the rest of the season.
Oh yeah, this is the same guy that, in Fantasy Football, drafted Jerome Bettis the year after he retired. ("How was I supposed to know he was retired?")

Well, mathlete, I at least understand what a spread is, even if I'm not sure how good I'll do with it as a factor. So that either puts me one up or one down on that guy.

Awesome. I'm home visiting my parents but will have to join today. (I thought about doing this last week when I was watching games and was thinking - "Football, alcohol, watching it in a bar full of (somewhat) attractive men. What is this missing? Oh yeah, gambling where the only win/loss is pride. I'm so glad you had the follow through I lack.)

to popechunk: the gamecast at various websites is the closest you'll come. You can pay about $40 to have access to radio broadcasts on NFL.com. (I'll almost bet that's the first time *that's* shown up here.)

I knew the Jets were going to beat my beloved Pats. Knew. It. But I'm such a homer moron that I picked the Pats anyhow.
I wish I could get the damned NFL Sunday ticket thingy.
Should we try to keep this thread alive, or use Y!'s message board?
