I'll Be Back...for that link February 1, 2010 11:26 AM   Subscribe

I need help finding an AskMe post where someone asked about the plot holes of Terminator: Salvation.

My GoogleFu is failing me. I didn't bookmark it or read it because I didn't want to read the spoilers. Now that I've seen the film (and holy shit, there are some big freaking holes there) I'd like to review that discussion.

A google search restricted to ask.metafilter.com turned up nothing and neither did the site search.

Terminator: Salvation didn't have plot holes, it had a hole in place of its plot.

I so wanted to like that movie, so any bitterness apparent in this comment is a result of high expectations rewarded with... well, Terminator: Salvation.

I skimmed it a little, and I think the question went something like "So this Marcus Wright terminator goes on a mission to locate John Connor, finds him, and then befriends him, but it's really a trick by Skynet. Why didn't Marcus just kill John Connor immediately?".

The answer is "because the script fucking sucks", but I thought some people jumped in with other theories, and I'd like to read those.

nope. damn. maybe it was deleted? doesn't seem too chatfiltery, so i doubt it. this is troubling. between this and me losing my wallet sometime in the last 48 hours, i'm just not right at the moment.

Whoa, there's a 7-day limit on MeTa posts. I didn't know that (but this makes sense, and now I'm glad I'm not spamming MeTa with two posts in less than two hours).

Seven days from now, you'll all know the Big Secret of Mod Life!

Listen, and understand. spikeleemajortomdickandharryconnickjrmints is out there.

He can't be bargained with.

He can't be reasoned with.

He doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear.

And he absolutely will not stop, ever, until he finds that post.

Perhaps it was Ask Reddit and not Ask Metafilter; see these Google results.

definitely wasn't Ask Reddit, but thanks.

There's obviously some N-loop fuckering going on around here. Huh. So this is what an alternate universe looks like, eh? I like the drapes.

Cortexamynhowie went back in time and deleted it.

Skynet wins again.

While we're on the subject, my favorite plot hole in that movie was how they did open heart surgery in an open tent. That was awesome. Although that may not be a plot hole per se, just impossible to suspend disbelief about.

It's the future. Surgery has, like, advanced, man.

When you do find the URL, I'll send it to myself-in-the-past and include the link in this post.

It's not just the open heart surgery, it's the idea that John Connor will return to being an active soldier in the fight against Skynet after having a heart transplant. Not to mention that, in the war-torn future, I'm sure it will be incredibly easy to find enough anti-rejection meds to take care of any issues that might arise.

Or could it be that Marcus' organs are magical universal donor organs?

I liked the rumored original ending better, that Connor dies, and Marcus basically takes his face. Off. and does the Travolta/Cage schtick for the next two movies.

Besides, Terminator 4's giant robot was better/more believable than anything Michael Bay has put out... except for the super secret stealth mode thing (which I'm sure came up in that thread... I remember it somewhere...)

Terminator 4's giant robot had killer bikes that came out of its feet. Killer bikes that you can ride. In the grimdark future there is only war. Also the Arnold-bot at the end was very smug, and then got its face burned off, and what kind of sentient killer AI designs its minions not to actually efficiently kill people but to just knock them across the room multiple times into shelves and empty plastic barrels? I like to watch the T-800/Connor showdown at the end with Royksopp's "Happy Up Here" playing, it's fully awesome.

That Nic Cage is one exceptional dude: he has the ability to ruin movies without even being in them. Respect.

Man, Bad Lieutenant colon Port of Call New Orleans proved that I will always love Nicholas Cage no matter what ludicrous crap he agrees to get paid for and no matter how horrible his hair looks. That man can do crazy like no one else.

Also, I forgot every detail of Terminator Salvation (save the Batman voice) the instant I left the theater. For the best.

The only redeeming feature of Terminator: Salvation was the oh so brief appearance of Helena Bonham Carter.

(I can't believe I watched it. I mean, I sat on the couch and played Civ while 'moonMan watched it, but I could have - y'know - MOVED AWAY. Far far away. It would have been the right call.)

You can't find the post you're looking for because CORTEXNET sent a script into the past and killed the mother of the MeFi that made it.

The callback to the 1984-era Arnold... minator was really the only part of the movie I found myself getting excited about. Surrounded by crap, it was a fairly clever thing to insert.

The only redeeming feature of Terminator: Salvation was the oh so brief appearance of Helena Bonham Carter.

Oops, my bad. There was this too. There is little this woman can do that I won't giddily applaud.
