Is it bad form to "self-link" to a photo we took on Ask MeFi? June 3, 2010 1:12 PM   Subscribe

Is it bad form to "self-link" to a photo we took on Ask MeFi? In general, of course, I know not to. However, I have a couple WTF? photos that I would love help in 'deciphering.' (e.g., strange lettering on a cave wall in Turkey that doesn't match up with any alphabet I can find).

That's totally fine. People do that sort of thing all the time.
posted by ocherdraco at 1:14 PM on June 3, 2010

If you have a question about the contents of a photograph, yeah, that's generally fine to do. Folks have done it a number of times before.

As long as you also slaughter a spammer before posting the question, things should be fine.

This goes for any AskMe question.

In fact, I believe there is a pretty hard and fast rule that if you are asking a question about your cat, you HAVE to include a picture.

You obviously didn't know the img tag back in its hard-drinking days. Scary stuff. I once saw it nearly beat a midi file to death with a pool cue just because a drink got spilled.

It's jovial now because of all the anger management classes.

Personally? I wouldn't screw with the img tag, because it seems nice on the surface, but I know there is a monster hiding in there, just waiting for something to set it off.

But I do have Kitty Friend who lives around here, I need to take a picture of him because he is a great looking cat. He rubs against my legs and makes *meowrrry* sounds when he sees me going out to my car.

I saw Kitty Friend almost every day last week, I haven't seen him around for a couple days. I hope he's okay.

And this is Lady. She has outlived Soren and Linus, and somehow tolerates the kittens.

Thanks Internet, I spent a good 45 minutes ransacking my albums trying to find a picture of Cat the Cat, the black and white Maine Coon I grew up with who holds the title of Best Cat Ever. The picture I am looking for is me, age something or other in my jammies, knock dead on the floor with Cat The Cat sprawled out next to me, our languorous poses a perfect mirror.

I showed the picture to my BF and he said "Wow, that is the biggest fucking cat I've ever seen."

"What? Cat was normal sized, like this *makes hand motion across my lap*."

"Oh no" *he takes my hands, pushes them in* "Most cats are like this sized. You had a toy tiger."

"...... Cat was more awesome then I could have imagined."

restless_nomad, we do have the same cat! Unless maybe yours is a girl. Ours is a boy. And Secret Life of Gravy's Phineas reminds me strongly - in markings and demeanor - of our dear departed Soren.
posted by rtha at 1:47 PM on June 4, 2010

The Magpie is a girl, actually. Although the possibility of her breeding with a cat just like her sort of horrifies me... she's adorable, but she's the Magpie for a reason - she's loud and pesty and steals things.
posted by restless_nomad at 2:16 PM on June 4, 2010

Our housemate makes catnip toys. She gets cool fabric and sews it into little pillows or fish-shapes and stuffs them with pillow stuffing and catnip, and then gives them to animal shelters and such. And Roswell will hang out with her, "helping." She came downstairs yesterday because she was missing an-almost done toy; we still haven't found it. It's a good thing he's fixed and will never meet your Magpie! He's pretty quiet. But he does fetch things.
