Update: to the MSI month at the Museum Contest (previously) mefi's very own avoision was not selected from the five finalists!

Mefi's avoision, aka Felix, was one of the finalists but was not selected to life at MSI for a month. Another Chicago native Kate won, but is not apparently a member of the Chicago cabal or a mefi - however she does state that she likes to chat up strangers, and if we are anything, we are strange. And chatty. Here's avoision's account of the award ceremony, including some pictures of the glass living quarters.

Is there video of the reveal? Based on the picture, I want to see it!

Ah yes, there it is! Hurray!

Hold up...the bedroom is a glass box? Or was that just for the press/ceremony?

Too bad avoision didn't get it. Enjoy your space ice cream, dude, you earned it!

Bah. avoision, I think you should sneak in there, regardless of who "they" chose, and just do it on your own. I'd much, much rather read that blog!

I read this as "was not sentenced to life.."

Aw man! And I voted for you about 10 times, too!

Bummer - we voted for you as well. At least now the bunnies won't be wondering where daddy is...

I am shocked, shocked that the attractive young redheaded woman won this internet poll.

I guess they preferred evasion.

(Grats on making it as far as you did.)

The fix is on! Ballot box stuffing! Jury rigging! Bribery! Corruption! Mafia ties!

...or something like that. Sorry, avoision!

"co-writing musicals about sloths with my roommates..."

Hmm, maybe this girl has promise.

Seriously, she is a customer service rep, so that's likely what put her over the top. The museum figured she'd be good at the "telling people about the museum" part.

avoision had by far the best "fun fact", and therefore should have won. I call shenanigans.

I am shocked, shocked that Kate has already been so easily dismissed due to her perceived attractiveness.

I accounted for 16 clicks to the voting page and had several people tell me they voted. I did what I could!

Oh for fuck's sake. I'm not dismissing her. I'm dismissing internet popularity contests. Jerk your knee at someone else's expense, please.

REALITY SHOW TIME. I think each finalist should be allowed to live in the museum, but the rule is they have to keep their presence secret from all the other people living there at the same time. They'll be challenges and what not that get them out of their cubes hidden around the building. Last person to live undetected WINS.

Thanks all, for the kind words and support. When we took the stage, I thought the contest had entered the swimsuit competition phase. I was apparently mistaken.

So it looks like I shaved my bikini zone for nothing. Ah well, so it goes.

Though I've been visiting MetaFilter regularly for a while now, I still feel very much like a lurker. It was quite touching to see so many folks vote for me, and offer up encouragement. Very, very cool.

It would have been easier, I suppose, if all of the Finalists disliked one another. But everyone involved was incredibly nice, and immensely awesome. We all met up for drinks at the end of the night, and I'm going to post up a few photos right now, over my lunch break.

I should mention that all the runners-up received a nice gift bag, which did include astronaut ice cream. But it also included about $200+ worth of gift certificates too (and other fun stuff).

phunniemee: The glass room is the winner's public "office," where they'll be a small part of each day. But there are private quarters, hidden away from the public where Kate can sleep and get away for a while, whenever she wants.

Sorry I couldn't represent the Blue. But thanks again for all the good vibes!

They should have let all 5 people in and the last one to leave wins.

I like it: Month at the Museum, Basil E. Frankweiler Edition. Another rule: you can't bring any food, you can only buy food at the cafeteria using the coins you harvested from the fountain.

MSI just posted up a nice video of how the winner was announced - five beakers, five vials, and one big chemical reaction. Check it out.

Felix, congratulations on making it as far as you did! That alone is an impressive achievement.

As a fellow MatM contestant who didn't make the semi-finalist cut, I was sending good thoughts and luck your way. Evidently, I accidentally sent you the same luck that I had. Oops.

I have to say, Kate's finalist video is shades of Ask a Ninja and entirely awesome. After the initial thread in the blue, I lost track of this contest, but I would have totally voted for both of you!
