This is not what AskMe is for. It looks like there is ample evidence that this question is not made in good faith, enough to err on the side of deletion.

Essentially the same question was posted last month. It's for driving traffic to her blog.

enough to err on the side of deletion

We've been looking at it all day. She included a link to her blog which I deleted. She's asked a question along the same lines before. We're unlikely to let her ask another one, but it's only when the second one has been asked that the first one looks super sketchy. It's been flagged enough times [even before this MeTa thread was posted] that it's pretty much in the delete-this territory now. I was waiting until I got back from dinner to make a final decision [and not make one from my phone] but I think you're right this pretty well should go.

You know, based on a quick Google search of your domain name, it seems you ask these same sort of questions at a lot of different sites and always link to your blog, which brings into question the sincerity of this post.

Holy crap, he's right. Astroturfing sibling betrayal, of all things. Okay, so, Rule 35: If it exists, there is spam for it.

This would border upon BanTown, would it not?

This would border upon BanTown, would it not?

Not really, this would be where the "stop doing this sort of thing here or there will be consequences" talking happens, but almost no one gets banned from here just for being goobers and somewhat spammy. We'd like people who have no interest in the actual community to just leave of their own accord when at all possible. And no matter what people feel about this sort of behavior, starting the LOLCRAYZEE talk would not be that helpful to anyone.

Yeah, I also performed a search on the name. Supposedly, the incident that sparked all this happened over a year ago, and boy howdy is she spreading the tale hither and yon on every blog and social site that allows comments, it seems. That's what made it seem more like actual spam than just goobers, to me.

Something similar happened recently with someone that was trying to find the person that assaulted him outside a bar. Posted a askme about it complete with youtube video and facebook group. Googled the username and found it was posted anywhere and everywhere. I really felt for the guy but definitely had to be deleted.

This is so strange. Is it really worth the effort to create a million different profiles to generate a small bit of web traffic to your site? Or does it actually generate more traffic than I'm guessing? And how does she actually benefit?

(I'm also guessing that this MetaTalk post will generate more traffic for her site than the actual post would have.)

If I were a spammer and the point of my loathsome existance was spamming MetaFilter you know what I'd do? I'd start two accounts, the first to lay some spam, and the second to make posts to MetaTalk say "Hey! Look at this post! It's totally spam! Seriously, look at it!", in order to get everyone all excited and looking at it, even beyond the point of deletion. It would be awesome. And vile, of course, but awesome.

I will note that the OP made me think about my relationship with my older sister and how even though we're not very close, she's never had a need to steal from me and I've never had a need to make an entire blog about it. I may have groused about her from time to time in my LiveJournal and on MeCha, but I really appreciate that I don't have a crazy sister. Just one whose interests run on a weaving parallel track to mine.
posted by TrishaLynn at 8:25 AM on December 1, 2010 [3 favorites]

Should I try to have a relationship with my only sister although she claims I stole money from her? Some of my friends insist that regardless of what she did to me, she is my sister, my blood, and I must continue having a relationship with her.

Frankly, I feel like my sister died a long time ago and I do not know or want to know the person she has become. She has a blog in which she expounds on her accusations, and she's linking to it from sites all over the net. With a sister like mine I do not need enemies.

However, Xmas season is here and I know that if I don't do something now, the opportunity would pass for good. Is blood more important than actions and should I disregard her behavior because she is my sister?

One time I was going around and around with my brother, telling him the same thing over and over, until finally I said, "Look, I'm done with this. You're not listening. You're just beating a dead horse."

My brother's comeback was to scream at me, "That horse is not dead!"

This has nothing to do with anything.

I'm all for cutting family arseholes out of your life (and I have). The idea that we must endlessly tolerate shite behaviour from someone just because they happen to be related to us by sheer random accident of birth is unhealthy and irrational. That blog , however, is even moreso. Somebody needs to move on. Your sister stole from you, she's a shitbag, cut her out of your life and then get on with it. Picking at scabs stops them from healing.
