Yay! I'm playing it on my other tab. "kotaku.com's action did not have any effect."

Dang, I was defeated by metafilter.com. This is an engaging game & I love the names of the attacks.

Aha! My captured economist.com just kicked scalzi.com's wild ass. You picked the wrong week to give up Coke Zero, John.

ask.metafilter.com is one tough bastard.

Yeah, it started off at 12 health (must be all those "Go to the ER!" answers), but my scalzi.com persevered with the Pew Pew Pew and made surprisingly short work of it.

Who's a good little scalzi? Who's a good little favicon? You are! Oh yes, you are!

Etsy v. MetaTalk took longer than I'd expected. Way to gut it out, scruffy little underdog MeTa!

apple.com is a beast. The 3 point applecare heal is enough to crush most sites.

I worked on the Game On contest, and just wanted to wish Matt congratulations! Favimon is a blast to play, we really enjoy it!

I spent 18 months working at a totally dysfunctional company making pretty much exactly this, only really badly. I am simultaneously thrilled to see it done properly, and tempted to go slit my wrists in despair.

Sweet, ask.metafilter.com just blew away my shitty Flash-based site with its GRAR! attack.

apple.com and sony are really tough! I've got Metafilter, Fark, Reddit, xkcd, at&t, apple, xbox, icanhascheeseburger, facebook, aol.com and yahoo. Lost Twitter AND myspace in the epic apple and sony battles.

Fun!

Great job, and congrats to Matthew!

Oh, thank you for posting this here! I have to make a correction, though: I am absolutely no fun at parties.

Except I can't make it do anything when I actually go look. Probably my firewall at work messing things up ;-(

And I missed a link to the original project.

This is AWESOME!

The CBC nibbled away at Apple while barely suffering a few nicks. I tag teamed Apple and the Ceeb to take on Sony, but Sony took down the CBC, nearly drained Apple, and only WeEndure saved the day.

Sony let me take back the CBC, but it came back stronger, with new tricks! (Whatever you do, don't let the Harper Government know about this.)

The track construction was super fun, I saved my first try: called MY FIRST TRY by STICKYCARPET. That took just a few minutes, and it runs at 134.5 M.

Then on my second try, something didn't seem right. Now, after a bunch of tedious repeated testing I find that by adding 3 modules to the identical track, modules that are never touched, the ball bounces forever, and those three new bricks never come into play.

Am I missing something? It's past 999, hasn't touched the new bricks, and doesn't go in the hole. I can't save it, because it doesn't terminate.

The changes are: (if the hole is 0,0) add a rounded ramp "(_" at 0,4, add the same shape at 6,0, and a spring facing left in the lower right corner.

Should untouched modules have any effect on the outcome?

Now it's not fun anymore. GRRR.

Am I missing something?

Either you are missing something, or Favimon has a hidden track-construction mode that I completely forgot I'd coded. Or you're talking about Marble Run (in which case I can't help you, I didn't make that one...).

Lifehacker took me out. I had cnn, favimon, metachat and huffington post. And it took them all out, damn.

Yep. Yay our team!! Those others guys suck!

Slate's 'contrarian' is awesome, drains 2 points from opponent and adds them to own total.
posted by leotrotsky at 10:48 AM on March 11, 2011

I'm wondering about that too, Rhaomi. Yesterday it looked like your screenshot, but now it's fine.

...and I checked again just to make sure and now it looks weird again. This is in Google Chrome. Looks fine in Firefox and Opera, but Safari's showing the same thing. Might be WebKit specific.
posted by Mister Cheese at 1:33 PM on March 11, 2011

Hey, that's my screenshot on the guest blog! And yes, it was specifically to show the awesome power of Slate's "Contrarian". I'm surprised you didn't use my other sceenshot. ;)

Oh, thanks for the screenshot lowkey! I had saved a bunch that people had sent me and couldn't remember where that one had come from. I hope you don't mind me using it.

The garbled text on the Mozilla page is a weird browser font bug, I came across it too. The Game On competition was specifically about using the capabilities of the latest generation of web browsers, so I think they pushed the website design a little for that reason.

Don't mind at all. Now I'm Internet Famous! Or, I guess, Internet Anonymous. Wait, no, that's already something else. I was just surprised and happy to see my favicon on the page.

Obscure Reference: "I just beat Slate with Digg"

Yeah, beating Slate isn't a problem. It's that once you have Slate's Contrarian attack in your arsenal, you can defeat anybody just by using it every time. Unless it's been rebalanced since I played.
posted by team lowkey at 8:17 PM on March 11, 2011

Unless it's been rebalanced since I played.

I made the 'vampire' moves a little less powerful - the opponent gets a chance at a defense boost, but the attacker doesn't get an attack boost - but yeah, it's still pretty overpowered. I'm working on making the battle system more robust and challenging.

Jayisgames just put up a really nice review!
posted by oulipian at 6:01 AM on March 12, 2011

Am I missing something, or do you basically have to start out by picking a site that can be beaten by Favimon itself? I don't see how else to add a site to your arsenal.

Wow, metatalk's hug paired with mefi's three wolf moon was awesome. Use the level 3 attack to tear up the hard ones, then beat up crappy webcomics and heal.
