Can we change our passwords? February 24, 2003 1:04 PM Subscribe
Is there a way for a user to change their account's password? No pressing need or anything, just wondering, as I like to change my various passwords from time to time.
Thanks! Definitely not worth bugging Matt about.

How do we know you aren't someone who got PST's password somehow and now just want to change it to keep the real PST out? ;-P

I do not believe that infrequent password alternation poses a significant security risk to the community, at least insofar as it would necessitate a technical solution.
But what do I know, I'm only using this account because Hildago forgot to log out properly.

Clearly not -- you spelled his (your) name correctly.

I may be a homeless guy at the library, but I do my research.

Yeah, say something only PST would say.
That would take two posts:
Post 1) Emphatic statement of this or that, random accusation of something or other, etc.
Post 2) "Oh wait I'm totally, utterly wrong about that!"

PST: All you need to do is post your old password here in this forum, along with what you want the new one to be. We'll take care of everything from there...

No, byort, that won't work. Don't you know that Matt's got it set up so that if you type your password here, it gets encoded? Look, here's mine: ******. It'll show up as just asterisks. Isn't that cool?
please, please don't believe me.

Ha, ha, ha. Regardless of how they try, no one will ever be able to crack my user account. It's impenetrable! My password is the most awesome, coolest password ever. I mean, who could ever guess that my password is shadowfax?!

Wait - I'm confused, is the ?! part of the password? Cause I'm trying it and it doesn't seem to be working. Dammit. Must hack vraxoin's account!!!

GIve me your e-mail address jonson, and I will send you vraxoin's real password. For $10, I will throw in his credit card number as well.

jonson: ?! isn't part of the password. It's the username.
Geez. I thought everyone knew that. Damn 14kers.

Jonson, of course you couldn't hack my user account. As soon as I saw that I'd inadvertantly posted my password here to MeTa, I asked Matt to change it to "s0fuXxoringL33t".

This entire thread makes me smile, if not outright giggle, a very welcome thing in light of the ugliness of the organ transplant immigration screed. Thanks!
