Cookie problems on Mefi

I'm getting a server error when I hit any of the *.mefi sites that looks like it's related to cookie processing. Here's the relevant error message: Element USER_PASS is undefined in COOKIE.

MD5 hash requested against user passwords

Given the trouble of certain sites, maybe we should also all look at another problem that they have experienced, and make sure we ourselves do not need to send out such alerts. A simple MD5 hash against your user passwords in your database keep them much more secure than holding them plain text.

Lost Password Pony

Tiny Lost Password Pony Filter: Failed login attempts from an Ask.Me page request that you email number one for password help. The main page has a handy-dandy 'email me my password' field. (I said tiny pony...)

MeFi Passwords

Perhaps it's right in front of my nose....

Where do we go to change our MeFi passwords? What do we do if we, heaven forbid, LOSE our password to MeFi? Do we get kicked out of the kingdom for being big dorkuses? Am I just missing it?

I think someone is trying to hack my account - or are they?

"Your MetaFilter password request"

Can we change our passwords?

Is there a way for a user to change their account's password? No pressing need or anything, just wondering, as I like to change my various passwords from time to time.

How do I change my password?

I've mailed matt twice about this, but he's never responded regarding this matter:

Given that we've got 17000 (maybe more) people on Mefi. Don't you think it's time we got ourselves a "Change Password" option?

I've looked and looked and I couldn't find a way to change my password.

There's someone who knows my password and has posted messages that Matt's deleted, and Matt's mailed ME the warnings.

Maybe I've not found out how to use MeFi's user profile thing, but considering that I've not been able to, many others also will be in my position some time.

Unrequested Password Requests

I have been out of the country for the past five days and have come back to a number of password requests sent to my email address. I haven't requested them myself.
Is this going to be someone simply trying to access my account pointlessly?

Change password

Can we get a form to change our MeFi password? I haven't been able to find it, so I guess this is a feature request...hope I haven't just missed the link somewhere on the front page :)

Problem with passwords while posting a comment.

Password problems: When I hopped over to MeFi today, I found I wasn't automatically logged in any more. I don't know if that's a MeFi problem itself, as I've had all sorts of weirdness with IE lately on my end. I logged in, no problem. But then when I tried to post a response in a MetaTalk thread, my password wasn't automatically filled in like it usually is. I didn't even notice until I hit "post," at which time I got a yummy ColdFusion error.

No place to post comment

I'm using IE 4.5 for the mac, and I get this strange bug whenever I hit "... comments".

It happens like this:
The first time that I come to Metafilter on a particular day, if I click on "... comments" next to a post that someoen has put up, I get the various comments, and everything is normal up until the password form. In it, there's a bunch of "" tags, and stuff like that, and instead of having the normal form to post your comment in, I get some weird error (I'd post it, but I'm not getting the error now).

I can fix the problem if I delete my "password" cookie, so I imagine it's related to that somehow. I hope you can fix it =).
