While I don't think that the question is appropriate for AskMe, this is really more of a feature request than a snark or call-out.

That would be a great feature.

yup--but would it be closed, or open for anyone (even non-members) to see?

mattlist like craigslist.

People have been getting pony crazy lately.

so you'd want your own turnkey, hosted metafilter server?

I thought PrinceValium's request was for commercial solicitations to be allowed somewhere on metafilter.

Yeah, sorry for not being clear. I didn't think the swap shop type post was appropriate for AskMe, but it would be a nice pony. I think we have discussed it before, at some point.

Might I suggest a deep orange? I already called maroon for FollowupFilter.

Definitely orange.

PornFilter. That's the ticket.

My first MeTa call out! I feel like I've finally arrived!

More seriously, I am not sure why it isn't appropriate for Ask, and would be interested in your analysis PrinceValium. I should add that if I were able to chose between giving out work to someone on Craigslist and a MeFi member, I'd pick the MeFi member. The community aspect of MeFi offers many transactional advantages over Craigslist. Thus, I do agree with you-- I'd like to see it as a feature too. I think I would use it quite a bit. But I am not sure why it needs another space.

Matt: Yes, that is exactly what I want! How do I get it?

The community aspect of MeFi offers many transactional advantages over Craigslist.

Well I think that sums up my point exactly. The point of AskMe is that when someone asks a question to the community, everyone benefits from the answer. That wasn't the case in your question. Undoubtedly the user base is a sophisticated collection of eyeballs, and has "transactional advantages," but that's why textads bring in the big bucks for mathowie.

A craigslist function here on Mefi would serve a completely different purpose - hooking up two people from the community with each other, rather than bringing the entire community into the topic. I think it's a great idea to have such a thing, but it should be separate from AskMe.

That's more a side effect than "the point," surely.

" The point of AskMe is that when someone asks a question to the community, everyone benefits from the answer."

I don't think that is possible. Was that really the intent of AskMe. I realize I was away when it took off, but I can tell you a lot of those questions and answers have nothing for me. Now, if you said, "a good number benefits" I can jump on the wagon.

Limitedpie's question might have been a request for service, but I believe the ensuing answers broadened the topic. Many, many Metafites have thought about starting a *filter. Now there is a thread to let them see the good and bad points of that dream.
