AskMe thread about useful software for troubleshooting

There was an AskMe thread today about essential software to take on tech support calls to loved ones' computers over the holidays. It got deleted, I assume because the question's been asked and answered a couple of times. (+)

I don't remember who posted it, and couldn't find the old thread in time to link it in the new one, but if people are still looking for it, it's useful as hell, it's timely, it's hard to find via keyword search, and it's here -- and I would just ask Matt to go a little easier on deletions for multiple-post reasons until you get your keyword/categories thing going.

FWIW, I did a google search on ask.me for "family tech support," and the very first hit was for the question you linked. I added the question and the two most relevant threads to the FrequentlyAskedOfMetafilter page on the wiki.

Not only is it still there, it's only packing four comments -- hardly a wealth of information. Surely there's something else you could fuss over.

Just to add my 2c I was also looking for that thread early last week and couldn't find it for anything. I'm with stupid -> :-) that it's very difficult to find.
