Who are the people in our neighborhood? Just found this, so apologizes if it is well known. What other hidden nuggets like this exist on MetaFilter?

And I know about this. Also, is there a purpose for the page listing occupations other than for information?

I hadn't stumbled upon that either. There's a previous MeTa discussion that mentioned it in the thread and also has links to some other assorted MeFi minutia.

Huh. I searched on occupation and didn't find that. Thanks for the link, Slack-a-gogo. Though your link is a little malformed. Here's a correction. My apologies for bringing up something old.

I think the tags page is not documented because it is very new. It was linked to from the meta page announcing the implementation of tags in the first place.

There was a MeFi redesign contest recently to address these issues. Hopefully Matt will find the time to implement it prior to junior coming along. I am afraid we will see much less of him after that.

People don't document, and quick hacks live forever.

Wow. There's a huge number of grad students here. I mean, I know some of those occupations are made up, but who would pretend to be a grad student? So I assume that they really are grad students.

Does this mean that there are other people stuck in a cold dark cubicle making graphs all day? Maybe I'm not alone in the universe after all.

I didn't know about that either, and that reminded me to add a few things to my page. : )

Yeah, these were all quick hacks made for an afternoon of fun that I forgot about.

Part of the redesign effor was to make these things more accessible.

Speaking of which, what's the status on that?

I really want to see a MeFi Day Of Fun now.

I note an awful lot of people listing themselves as some kind of dork, nerd, or geek.

As far as tags are concerned...that is a work in progress and Matt has mentioned that they will have functionality added as he gets the time.
