How Can I Filter Out 9/11 Posts? September 17, 2001 2:38 PM   Subscribe

My brain is mush - is there a way we could metafilter metafilter to filter out all the war/terrorism/WTC Attack posts for those of us on information overload. I'm longing for just plain old interesting links and news again

That'd require some standardised meta-data for each submission. ie, figure out some categories that encompass everything metafilter might talk about and allow users to filter categories they don't want.

Of course a quick hack would a WTC? (Y/N), but either way, it probably ain't gonna happen. Categories are always blunt and annoying.

I'm sure if someone did a statistical study you'd see the ratio of the topics you mention going down. Not to say they should or shouldn't.

Now if we could just get the front page postings shorter.

We really do need to do something about it if there's any validity whatsoever to the report I just read that said, "The first stage of the conflict, according to initial, conservative estimates, could last two to three years."

2 to 3 years ??!! I don't think I can stand neverending links to every new article from every news service in the world for 2-3 years. I just can't. Can't we put out a plea for quality over quantity or something?

Just a suggestion: why don't you post something you find interesting that's unrelated? It would give you a thread to read and give others a break from the constant news, too. It might even inspire other members to do the same.
