Request: official deleted threads index on the site October 1, 2005 10:52 PM   Subscribe

Deleted threads should have their own place on this site somewhere. Not only could they be accessible for reference, but many are funny as hell.

Matt has in the past said he won't do this because there would be people who would try to become, quote, "king of the shitpile" by making deliberately crappy posts.

That said, recently deleted posts can be found on lofi, though there's nothing distinguishing them from non-deleted posts.

Let's not and say we did. Alright?

That new section of MetaFilter which contains deleted posts is pretty hilarious, and sometimes, can even be used for reference. Thanks Matt!

Also, bitpart, thanks for the Google link. I'm just going to browse that from here on.

is it that difficult to ban users who are obviously trying to be the King?

it seems a pity that something interesting would be tossed aside because of the bad behavoir of a few.

either way thanks for those search strings... i will use them!

Also see "lofi.mefi"

I think you've got as much access to this crap as you could ask for. We've been over this many, many times, and the bottom line is always the same: if deleted threads are easily accessible, then they aren't really deleted. And if they have their own marvelous page celebrating them, then a bad incentive has been set up and people will post shit specifically so that Matt can delete it, so that it will show up there, etc etc. metachat.org is set up specifically to handle such trash. Use it.

No, it's not "that difficult" to manage they-who-would-be-king of the shitpile. It's just not the point and not a good use of anyone's time, especially not Matt's. There are plenty of hilarious shitpile sites on the net. Enjoy them, but accept that this isn't one of them.

Oh thanks guys. I totally missed the Princess Lara thread. Yowza, that was bracing.

Not exactly, no. Most deleted threads here would be as unwelcome there (though there isn't a delete machanism in place).

Metafilthy will also show you the FPP posts inline. AskMe deletes are gone for ever.

FPP posts

Argh.

gleuschk: "FPP posts

"

I would thing that the redundancy could be explained if the above referred not to the blue but to the grey, where most of the content starts with an FPP about one or more of the blue's FPPs.

A post about an FPP. An FPP post.

Excuse me?

Most deleted threads here would be as unwelcome there (though there isn't a delete machanism in place).
It is certainly true that most (but not all) threads deleted from MeFi would not be welcome on MeCha, but it certainly does have a delete mechanism which, at certain times, has seen pretty regular use, just like MeFi. It also has the banhammer, which has seen similar levels of use to MeFi, if not more (being an arsehole is a potentially bannable offence there).

That explains the milksop voice of MeCha.

And I, for one, appreciate that.
posted by me3dia at 10:30 AM on October 3, 2005

Kwantsar, you believe we at Metachat lack courage? You will meet me and we will fight and I will kill you outright. And if I fail, all of Metachat will cut off their ears and eat them and if I succeed I will then burn down your house and eat your pets assuming you have any. We of Mecha have agreed upon these terms and now you will agree or be labeled a coward forever more!
