I think it's about a CS 1.6 server. Which would actually be kind of neat, if there was a large enough consistent playerbase on Mefi.

But CS:S is so much prettier.

I don't know - I'm trying to kick my CS habit. The last thing I need is something that combines it with Metafilter. And besides I'm a bit scared by the thought of PEA and the rest of the gang running around with AWPs, shouting omg u r teh 1337 pwners etc...

Actually it would be kind of fun to have a server for MeFi members. Playing against a bunch of people that you know vaguely through their comments on MetaFilter would be a lot more fun that just slagged by random people on a nearby server.

Plus, I'd expect the taunts to be of higher quality here.

I'd be down for a CS: Source version of this, because I haven't had my old half-life discs handy in years. But would we honestly be able to get enough people to play on it regularly? I myself would only stop by on occasion.

I'd be perfectly willing to run a MeFi Rocket Arena 3 every Friday night, my time. Of course, pretty much everybody's ping'd be around 200 if they hopped on, 'cause it'd be here in Korea.

I could compensate for that by drinking a lot of beer, thus raising my own mental ping time.

Actually, scratch all that. What we really need is a well stocked dive bar equipped with functioning teleportation devices, so we can pop in whenever for a nice cold ones and a bit of fisticuffs.

Amusing relief for those as confused as I was 60 seconds ago:

1. camper

A term given to those in an online multiplayer game (usually FPS) who will place themselves in a strategic position and wait for an extended period of time until a target enters his field of view. The position usually allows one to surprise the target and allows the "camper" to eliminate him with ease. There are variants of this such as camping an item to repeatedly gain its benefits and defending a critical location.

Camping is a perfectly legitimate strategy, but is criticized by a majority of the online community, usually because players get frustrated by being killed in such a fashion, it slows the game down and is considered an unskilful art. Idiots always resort to insulting a camper, who will most likely have a higher score than them. Incompetent admins sometimes kick them and the camper society becomes one of ridicule and resentment.

It isn’t illegal to position yourself in such a way that you have an advantage, that’s smart thinking and its part of the game. Some people need to grow some balls.
