Contacting the Admins May 31, 2006 6:46 AM   Subscribe

There seems to be no clear way to contact the administrators for users who are not familiar with the site. Could we add a contact link up in the top nav section, or somewhere obvious?

There's a slightly buried list of contact info in the FAQ but I'm pretty sure mathowie is working on a contact page which is also mentioned in the MeTa thread below this one.

The FAQ has a perfectly good link to the contact form.

(The link is good. Not the form itself.)

The link is good.

No it's not. Or were you joking? It's so hard to tell around here.

Yeah, I've been meaning to make a contact form that sends email directly to me and jessamyn, or puts it into some sort of support queue. It would be linked in the footer of every page.

I'll code that up today.

What would be an example situation where one might need to email Matt instead of just coming to MeTa? Or maybe, one wouldn't know to come to MeTa, maybe that's it... like the chicken or the egg.

Messed up formatting posts.

Witty: exactly. Folks who don't know about meta, and don't know who is in charge, tend to be lost at sea.

Password related issues is one obvious one that comes to mind.

One could reframe the problem so that it becomes a benefit: if you can't figure out how to contact the admins, you probably aren't fit for MeFi.

Such a suggestion will, of course, be highly offensive to a good number of people. But they're probably the same people who can't find the email link, so we can safely discount their opinion. ;-)

Whereas people who know about MeTa tend to be 3 sheets to the wind.

I got a phone call at home from a random mefite once; now that's enterprising. Note: I am not home now, please do not call there.

That's not enterprising, that's slightly frightening!

Yeah, spazzy formatting would seem to be the main thing.

Since there doesn't seem to be a way to search for users onsite anymore (*prepares to be corrected*), when I buggered up a comment yesterday, I had to Google the site for jessamyn's name, click through to the first result, click on her username on that page, copy her obfuscated email address from her profile page, paste it into my email client, change it to a proper email address in my email client, write my little message and click send. Then I had to have a lie down and take a dose of smelling salts, so exhausted was I by this process.

Our info is also on the FAQ page. Once that page gets more flushed out and organized, I'd envision it being a better goto place for "how do I contact the admins" questions

Satisfied?

*sniff*

When I signed up I think it took me a few weeks to realise who were the admins round here. I kept seeing their nicks in threads so I just assumed they were regular posters. To my defense, erm, I think the FAQ page was less clear back then and I also never needed to contact them in the first place.

I'll admit I am unfit, though.

Thanks jessamyn. I too am unfit, it would seem.

Hey, I'll be the first to admit it's been a bit of a challenge to actually hunt down an admin email. Been there, done that.
