MeFi on Wii is a massive pain in the ass but it works December 21, 2006 6:13 PM   Subscribe

Well, as it turns out, posting to Metafilter using opera on the wii is a massive pain in the ass. But it works, as this clearly shows.

How is it done? By selecting each letter, or mimicking writing with the wiimote?
posted by clevershark at 6:27 PM on December 21, 2006

Using the PC again now.

It's done selecting each letter with the Wiimote. Massive pain in the ass, as I said, but it works.

Trying to log in was a bit hard, though. I logged in etc, and it returned me to the main page but it looked as though I hadn't been logged in yet. Tried again, same results.

Then for the hell of it I clicked on the MetaTalk link and I was logged in.

How did you download opera for the wii? I don't see it in the shop channel yet but it's supposed to come out 12/22?
posted by twiggy at 6:32 PM on December 21, 2006

I'm in Australia, if that helps, twiggy. It may not be out where you are yet.

At any rate, it's done through the shopping channel. Click on the Wii Software link. You get it from there.

I believe it's available in Europe and Australia already.

Does it have a USB interface to which a keyboard could be attached?

Posting from a Wii? Haha, nice work! Now I challenge you to make an FPP with it.

Grr, bah humbug, etc.

I'm going to go and queue for one today - was 9th in the queue for the seven that arrived in Game in Victoria Station yesterday. I'm told they have a dozen coming in today so will be first in the queue at 8am when they open...

My dear old grizzlyadams-esque, bearded, long-haired, substance-abusing friend and partner in crime during the time I lived for a few years in Whistler BC had a few unbreakable personal rules about life. One of them was that, while skiing in particular, one should avoid at all costs going 'Wheeee'.

I'm posting this comment from the Gamma Quadrant in the year 2365. I input it on my comm-PADD and then transmitted it via subspace particle beam through the Bajoran wormhole, then through the Guardian of Forever which sent it back in time to Earth in the year 2006, where it was received directly by mathowie's cerebral implants.

BTW, I recommend using the cellphone style keyboard rather than the QWERTY as the buttons are bigger, and I just found it a lot less frustrating (fewer errors).

NOT typed on my Wii. Some of us have to work sometimes...

I wrote this post on coding forms, submitted it to the I/O centre for keypunching onto 80 column cards, collected my deck the next day, used a 12-key hand punch to replace three cards where the KPO had misread some of my I's as 1's, ran the deck through an EBCDIC to ASCII converter and punched a 7-hole paper tape backup in case the JRun server died again, and still had it in before Christmas.

You ROT13 whippersnappers have it easy.
