Can I See All Deleted Posts? January 9, 2007 1:17 PM Subscribe
Matt, how bout a link to all the posts you've deleted over the years?
You can find an approximation of these if you search for "this post was deleted for the following reason" and site:metafilter.com on Google. This sadly was short lived. Otherwise I think mathowie has said pretty often that he's not interested in having some sort of official-type hall of shame.

The goal of deletion is that they not be read. A lot of deleted posts are spam and self-links, for instance, which were deleted so that the spammers don't get rewarded with referred traffic.

Try Plutor's GM script. I use it to see matt and jessamyn's always entertaining reasons for deletion.

Big Music started the Deleted Thread Blog.
I don't want to create a deleted post graveyard. I've answered this question before a few times, but the 30-second answer is I don't want to create a permanent home for crap, as it will feed someone's ego into being king of the shit pile (no really, it would happen). - Matt

I've been saving mine for a metaproject. I never complained my deleted posts . . . ever, but the last one I think was BS. So what if it was a double this time. The point is to share the information. This was full length version of the documentary. Besides, the original post links to an article with the documentary deleted. That's right . . . the original is essentially a dead link. I didn't post the link to satisfy a pompous ego. It was very serious and important information that Metafilter has the capability to distribute.

This is often not a great reason for an FPP. A good post shares cool stuff you found on the web, not stumps for your own pet topics, especially if they've already been posted to the site. The Sir No Sir video, or some sort of version of it, has been posted at least twice before. This has nothing to do with your ego one way or the other, it's just not a good post to MetaFilter.

I don't think that works anymore, jessamyn, since mathowie started marking deleted threads "NOINDEX, NOFOLLOW" for robots.

Yeah, the google search method doesn't work anymore since deleted threads have the NOINDEX meta keyword. Your best bet is the "show deleted posts" greasemonkey script or favelet. This doesn't show you all the deleted posts, only those on any given page. It would be totally counterproductive for mathowie to list all deleted posts anywhere as the whole point is so that people don't see them.

Great Scott, my good man! There is something hideously malformed and wrong-functioning about your redonkulous berry-pit of a brain! How dare you thrust such horribly unspeakable evils upon the world? Are you inhuman!? Have you no soul? No heart!? WHAT BOTTOMLESS UNENDING ABYSS OF SHEER EVIL AND DOOM ROILS WITHIN YOUR BROKEN, SHAMBLING FRAME?
MOREOVER; Only a nunshitting Pomeranian chicken-fucker would keep dangling that superfluous space character before their querulous punctuations.
Though, that "Scooby Do of the Whoopy Poo" thing is like a punch in the junk, too. Jesus, man.

I understand the rationale for deleting doubles at MeFi, but I can't help saying, this time around, that I am glad augustweed linked to Sir No Sir, which I personally had not seen or heard about previously. I'm watching it right now, and can't help but draw the obvious parallel with the YouTube video (of a disillusioned soldier speaking about his Iraq experience) that I linked to today in this current FPP. Gung-ho, patriotic young men, ready to do their "duty" for their country and finding it's a rather different reality on the ground in a foreign land. History repeats itself.

Also, "Scooby-Doo" is misspelled. But as a wise man once said, "Scooby-Doo can doo-doo, but Jimmy Carter is smarter." I think those are words we can all live by in our daily lives. Let's try it by reciting it as we arise each and every morning.
