Referral bug? February 12, 2007 9:49 PM   Subscribe

Apparently, amazon.ca URLs are not rewritten like amazon.com ones to include mathowie's referral info. Might be a teeny bug.

meh, no biggie. I checked when I implemented the code, and 98% of links that contained "amazon" had a .com on the end, the rest being .uk and .ca URLs. I don't want to mess with the affiliate stuff across their domains (I dunno if they even support it) for just another 1 or 2%.

Yes, I've wondered when I link to amazon.co.uk whether I should add in the affliliate code myself ... but happy to let it lie.

Each Amazon store has separate affiliate programs that must be applied for separately, AFAIK. (I wasn't able to pull over my amazon.com associate ID to amazon.ca when I set that up, for example.)

Given that anyone who wanted to order from Amazon.ca would have to pay big shipping fees if they aren't based in Canada, the percentage of purchases from such an affiliate URL is probably pretty minor.

This is a nice workaround for those of us who don't like the affiliate link. Next time I link to amazon, I'll link to amazon UK or CA.

Apparently not so much.

Damn, loiseau. I'm sorry; I didn't mean to poke fun at something that might really hurt, and I hadn't read any of that thread before. I was just joshin' on the earlier too-awesome AskMe.
