Do you ever wish you could change your username? What would you change it to?
I can't really decide, but I like my current username. I also have an eel in my shirt.

What a coincidence; My hovercraft is full of eels.
Getting back to PrinceValium's question: No, not really, but then again I just use my initials which is admittedly rather dull, not to mention unpronouncable and really annoying at meetups. So perhaps I would like to change it… Hmm… Damn you.

I like my user name because it connects to my real name, but I keep getting myself confused with chaz. Also, I suspect that when I first signed up Matt thought that I was some kind of teenaged troublemaker with a devilish agenda, because he deleted a couple of my comments, and as you know, I'm pretty innocuous. I think my current favorite mefite name is NotMyselfRightNow, and of course, always and forever, LittleMissCranky.

I kinda regret the space and capitalization now, since it's so different than (most) everyone else. I suspected that there wouldn't be a restriction against spaces, and it seemed silly to me to adopt the cramped username style when it wasn't necessary. But now I sort of don't like that it's as different as it is. With my high profile and all, anyway.
I don't have anything better to change it to, though. Unless it was "kmellis", which is, um, "me". "Keith M Ellis". I'm "kmellis" everywhere, pretty much, since 93. I didn't use that name, though, because there's a "kmel" here on MeFi and I wanted to avoid any confusion. Anyway, again, it's unusual for me to have a honest-to-goodness pseudonym. I'm not sure I like it, actually. It's like it's this other identity. That's sort of neat, in a way, but it also makes me uncomfortable. I'm me. I don't particularly have any desire to have an alter-ego. I realize that that's a big attraction to many other people. I'm kinda compulsively honest and not comfortable with facades or masquerades, even when they're socially acceptable and, well, healthy.
Oh, and yeah, I too love the name "LittleMissCranky". It's just so evocative. Great name.

yes, because sometimes I make some pretty boneheaded statements, and it ends up possibly reflecting badly on a whole group of people (those that participate on my website, named Crunchland) instead of just stupid, ol' me.
If I had it to do over again, I'd probably go with some sort of variation of my real name.

Oh, yeah, FidelDonson, some of my friends IRL are calling me "taz", too. It was a slight shock the first time I heard it said out loud, but it feels sort of natural. I've been called "T" (and variations - Miss T, Lady T, Big T, T-Spot, etc.) a lot in the past. I have an old username floating around out there somewhere. I signed up back in 2000 or early 2001 expecting to be a complete troll but never followed through. Later in 2001 I actually grew a little affectionate toward this place and signed up using my real name.
Now I've been trying to track down that old account to see what assinine things I said but can't remember the name I used so it'll just have to float out there; a record of my former destructive self.
Yeah, I do want to change my username.
Not to derail but I had a blast while trying to find my old username. I ran across a lot of users on MeFi who got accounts, made one (1) comment and then disappeared (the "One Hit Wonders" of Mefi if you will). Some of the comments were innocuous - "Yes, I agree" type stuff and others were just bizarre and/or hilarious.
Too bad some the new blood dries up so quick.

I wish I'd chosen "when we were lions" as my name and had cultivated the most pretentious persona in the history of metafilter. Of course, to accomplish this I would have had to do a number of things such as proof-read what I write and have valid points, so it's probably a good idea I didn't.
I lament my current choice on a daily basis, however. It was just an e-mail address I started using when I was 18. Now, some four years later, I'm more than a little disappointed in my earlier, not-so-fresh self.

I also kind of wish I'd gone with Larry "Pete" Murdock because why would I do that? Then every day I'd go "why would I do that?" and then after a dramatic pause I'd go, "that's why" and just sort of nod emphatically once and feel good about myself.

I like my initials and I like their neutrality, that in themselves there is nothing much to create expectation or some kind of "pre-persona", that a person would imagine before reading my comment. Of course, I like some of the other more inventive usernames I've used and it's definitely more fun to have a series of interesting names than if everyone were to just use their initials - but I appreciate the straightforward ones too.
It's also funny what different people get from a name - whether you know a reference, whether you think it's a boring/blatant reference or a smart/clever one... or if it's not a reference (or not one you know), whether you find it subtle and witty or coy or self-congratulatory or what. There's a lot in a name. (Can you imagine if amberglow had been Drooper?)
I agree on 'turtles...' and 'notmyself...' (although I imagine it's a pain to login.)

I admit to showing a complete lack of imagination in my choice of username. Even so, several people have come up to me at meetups and asked me what the "mc" stood for, as if it were some secret code. It's just the first to letters of my last name, and writing it that way is a grade school reflex since there were always more than one "jon" or "john" in the class and usually another Jon M.
I initially considered calling myself "buddybradley" but I didn't for some reason that escapes me now.

Xenophobe, I think I'd have gone with one of the ships from Excession - maybe "Frank Exchange of Views" or "Not Invented Here"

There's someone on usenet who posts as GSV Three Minds In A Can, which I like a lot.
I keep hoping that a ship that's been around Earth a bit might change its name to ROU S. Me, I don't believe they exist.

The handles I had considered for myself, had I gotten to get my own account, were either SayMyName or something like MeFiSto, Mephisto, MEFIstofeles etc. [Hopefully I'll get my chance to change some day.]
Now it works as a shared account, but I probably use it 80% of the time. Poetic justice, maybe.
