Comment count does not match actual comments March 17, 2005 11:16 AM Subscribe
3067 != 3202 ; 443 != 471 ; 426 != 432 ; but 11 == 11. An old user thing? Or a massive cover-up? Follow the money!
I'd place money on monju being correct. I'm pretty sure quonsar has had a lot of deleted comments (compared to the MeFi average). Is it nearing 200? Possibly. Matt and/or quonsar might be able to tell us that.

Oooooh -- they could be comments in threads that got deleted. That makes sense.

quonsar commenting in a to-be-deleted thread? No way.

Either I have been naughty 53 time or I have wasted my comment 53 times in threads that went poof. I think the latter.

That's an interesting theory, but the stats for Alex Reynolds appear to contradict it.

monju_bosatsu is prolly right on the money. Mine are off as well, and I know that I chattered in a now deleted thread so... (but did I really make 21 comments to that one? My, what a chatterbox I can be...)

Now I'm confused all to hell. I tried to check mine, but it says comments #400- 43whatever, and it shows all of my comments. Also, I counted, and the number on that page is the same as the number of comments it says I have in my profile, not the number it says at the top of the detail page.
I contend, however, that it would be a bigger bug if 3067 did equal 3202. Imagine the implications for commerce.

I think it's just a cheap stunt pandering to ethnic stereotypes.

this most likely has to do with the fact that askme and metatalk were intermingled at one time. adding askme comments to metatalk numbers doesn't add up, but i'll still bet it's a major factor.

Maybe it's a bug, or matthowie took pity on me and edited my numbers. This is indeed a strange universe.

I mentioned this before, but I'm not sure if Matt understood what I meant... I don't think I was very clear.

I don't even recall posting that many comments...
