MetaFilter pretty much equals America/white/mostly male/Filter and I am curious as to how many members there are from other lands. Excluding Canada, UK, Australia and Americans living abroad who visits here? What about believers other than Christians? Anyone out there?

Arse_hat said "believers" other than Christians -- that is, people who are neither Christian, agnostic, or atheist. Sorry I can't help out; I'm a white male atheist in America.

But I don't work in the tech industry and my parents are blue-collar.

I am white (mostly German and Irish extraction), male (these days more asexual than heterosexual), and a recovering Presbyterian (if Matt ever chooses to start his own religion, I'm in). My actual birthplace is Cleveland, Ohio but have been a resident of the Los Angeles metropolitan area for all but 6 years of my life (and of the state of depression for the last 5 years). My 50th birthday is on the anniversary of the death of James Dean, at which time I will become demographically irrelevent, and I can hardly wait. I have never been beaten by Nick Douglas or Doug Nicholas, nor have I ever beaten Alex Reynolds or Reynolds Alexander. I believe I can fly, but choose not to make a big show of it. I first discovered a bald spot on the back of my head 20 years ago, and am thankful to whatever deity or natural anomaly that has allowed me to still have some hair left. Since the last time my doctor adjusted my mediction, I've been sharing way too much information on MetaFilter.

amberglow, it was the response from Mossy in this thread that prompted me to ask. It is rare that a thread involving religion, politics or societal trends generates much of interest to me. It is almost always the same rather narrow range of views. Mossy brought something a bit different and that’s nice to see.

I would just like to say that as a white (well,Jewish), atheist male, I do not approve of lumping Canada (or UK or Oz for that matter) in with the US in arse_hat's use of the term 'American' (and, yes I know Canada is in North America - I'm Canadian, I know some geography). We Canadians are proud (often too proud) to be different from our neighbours to the south, and we have a perspective that can differ significantly from USians on a wide range of issues. (And I realize that USians have their own cauldron of differing views).
I agree with amberglow that language is certainly a factor, as probably is the registration process which likely makes it cumbersome for a large number of non-Paypal useable country's denizens.
As for all the weasel words and provisos, sue me, I'm a lawyer.

I am not a believer but I would like to hear from Muslim, Buddhist and others on occasion.

birdsquared, I am a Canadian ex-pat. I excluded Canadians et al. because while I am aware that their views are very different than the average American (Usasian?) I really want to know if Meta is attracting at least a few folks a little more removed from the U.S. status quo.

The other lesson about how your mother wasn't really saying she loved you but that she planned to trade you to the circus for a monkey, because "if I'm going to have a shit-throwing hairy animal, it might as well be one with a better-hidden anus"? This is an interesting question. Maybe you could map members. The Monkeyfilter Wiki has a map, but it's being put together by hand, and is opt in only. Currently shows that most of the members are in Anglophone/bilingual countries (Richer would probably kill me for calling Canada anglophone :), with an understandably large number of Americans (as there are a lot of them). Some of the people elsewhere are expats, some not. There are people missing, including a few who have mentioned being from elsewhere (I remember someone being in Mexico City), but the proportions are just about right.

It would be interesting to see something similar for metafilter, but it would be a lot of work.
