IP blockage error? August 13, 2005 11:01 PM   Subscribe

If my IP were blocked, would the symptoms be something like constantly getting a "Error Executing Database Query ... Server returned: No buffer space available (maximum connections reached?)" error, even though everyone else can connect just fine, until it occurs to me to ssh elsewhere and try connecting? At which point I get through fine?

Also, under links, live preview doesn't work (as one would expect), but one can post immediately without previewing. Is this known? It strikes me as a bug.

Well, that didn't work.

Really I ought to have been able to predict that it wouldn't work form the fact that I can get through neither with firefox nor with links from my home machine.

ehhh... it's always worth a shot anyway.

Why hasn't Matt deleted the Harry Morgan account?

In Safari it works just fine, however. Odd.

I don't know, vacapinta. It's not even useful if you need or want to use it to make a MeTa post within the week in which you can't under your normal name, since other people can use it to post noise or contradictory information.

Banned people are redirected to plastic.com. Or so I am told.

i get the same error with firefox, but I can get through using IE.

this is the error message.

" Error Executing Database Query.
[Macromedia][SQLServer JDBC Driver]A problem occurred when attempting to contact the server (Server returned: No buffer space available (maximum connections reached?): recv failed). Please ensure that the server parameters passed to the driver are correct and that the server is running. Also ensure that the maximum number of connections have not been exceeded for this server."

That's an honest database error I can't explain. No one is banned and there's nothing in the code to throw that error, but something certainly is weird.

I get the error too....

It seems that, after the server change, I forgot all about the entries in /etc/hosts from the last time DNS changed over. Ha ha ha ha ha. I sure am dumb!

I got that message too, for a little while, in Safari. I just went and ate a sandwich, and after that everything seemed to work fine. Amazing how many of life's problems can be fixed that way....

Doesn't it depend on the sandwich?

I've been getting a lot of the "This Document contains no data" pop-up error (something like that).

I had been getting the "Error Executing Database Query".

Turns out my HOSTS file had entries for the various MF sections as 69.xx.xx.xxx. They were put in a few months earlier for some reason, due to advice in a MeTa thread (don't remember exactly why). When Matt switched over to the new IP, my requests kept on going to the old IP. Just a heads-up for anyone else.
