It is difficult to get a man to understand something when his job depends on not understanding it.
best comment ever?
Why do we not want most popular comments from all time available, the way it is for posts? [more inside]
There's been an awful lot of Obits lately.
Do comments make good posts?
Is it OK to construct a FPP from links and comments within another FPP?
Semen-eating monkeys aren't welcome on MetaFilter.
You knew it was coming, and here it is! Is this really what Metafilter is about? Matt almost got run out of town by a howling mob for allowing ads for a popular site with scantily clad women, but videos of monkeys eating their own semen is A-OK and best of the web?
Bad newsfilter post.
Mailto:s in posts, acceptable or not?
Mailto:s in posts, acceptable or not?
Content or quality?
I'm confused. What is more important to mefites, actually responding to the content of FPPs, or rating their quality? I see a general (hence, no links in this question) preponderance to the former. It seems that many responses to posts are actually rating the quality of it and/or the poster, rather than the content of the FPP. I've read a lot of the sites about Metafilter and maybe I'm missing a concept or something.
I am truly not trying to be a smartass, I'm genuinely interested in understanding this. Thanks.

Are silly threads allowed now?
Has there been a slight shift in policy?
The silly personality quiz and the infamous Mushroom post are both things I would have thought would have been flagged copiously and deleted, but they remain.
I am not having a hissy fit, and am perfectly willing to skip over or add to the stillness as I see fit.
This is just seeking some clarification as to if anything different is happening and can we expect more of the same.

We don't "sign" our posts here at Metafilter
Are we the anti-freep?
Does anyone else find themselves annoyed by the mirror-image-of-freep qualities of this?

It used to be frowned upon to post links from other link agregators/filters. Has it changed?
When I used to read MeFi regularly, it was generally accepted that you didn't post anything from "the usual suspects" such as memepool, boing boing, b3ta, etc. because they themselves are weblogs about interesting, offbeat links and most readers read them as well as MeFi. Seeing as this "LSD art" story has been the top item on memepool for a week, I guess this policy has changed. (This is really not meant to sound rude or snide, apologies if it's taken that way)
Posts with no context at all.
Quick and lazy newsfilter posts.
Can we criticize?
It's great that Matt is just one of the guys when it comes to posting but, with respect, this post of his seems way below average. It's a short news item, from a big media source, which will already be known to those who follow the news. The post, though, is not the point. My question is "To what extent are we allowed - or able - to criticize his posts as if he were just another user?" Is it ungracious, ungrateful or downright rude, for instance? Fwiw, my opinion is that special treatment and undue deference are just as annoying and even insulting.
What is the consensus regarding posting images to the front page?
What is the consensus regarding posting images to the front page? I don't have issue with it, I am just wondering. I find no mention of it in the guidelines, but I never see it happen....
What happened to the moratorium on op-ed politics pieces?
Take it to Sportsfilter
Here's a fun brain teaser for ya. Wouldn't sports oriented front page posts like this and this be better suited in SportsFilter? And if not, why not?
Can I post links that I found on Fark first?
I visit several sites and it is interesting to note where a story appears first. More than once I've seen an article on Fark a day or two before it shows up here. I'm not complaining, I know not everyone reads Fark, but is there any sort of policy on this? I mean, I've considered posting articles found on Fark but never have simply because there are 50k Fark members, so anything there will show up on many Blogs, and is thus not likely to be new to a majority of MeFians. Am I wrong? I will only post a on the front page if I can find something that I think will be interesting and new. However that may be an impossible task. Yet it can be done.
Chatfilter posts are bad posts.
Posts without any links.
Sean Meade posts a FPP without any links, but summarizes an article he read. The reaction is less than enthusiastic. Sean Meade takes offense. Can I post a summary of a conversation I had the other day?
One word posts are annoying.
One word posts on the MeFi front page are in my opinion more annoying than those that are over 100 words long. I'd rather have too much information about what I'm about to click on rather than not enough. Discuss? Which do you prefer? Are there ever times when one word posts are acceptable?
Is there a statute of limitation on double posts?
Seeing this thread regarding the hoary old chestnut (you know, back in 2000) of Steve Albini vs. The Music Biz and Courtney Love ripping him off begs the question:
Is there a statute of limitations on double-posts?
Since TiggleTaggleTiger is a new user (May 2001), should he get cut slack? What if a newbie - new to the Web, new to MeFi - posts this link to a great site he found called fray.com? What's the correct procedure here?

Too much Ananova.
Could we have a moratorium on Ananova links for now? While other news sources have not been dead on, they seem to be way off base more than others. There are quite a few reading Mefi right now, and disinfo from what looks like a credible source could hurt.
Edit posts pony
just wondering.... any way we could get a way to edit our own posts? ... i know there is a preview , but hey, mistakes happen
MeFi post as callout
I think starting a new front-page thread just to call another user out is going too far, especially when said user explicitly asks to take it to e-mail.
