There are 73 days left in the Cycling Streak Challenge. It might look like ~35 days is a commanding lead, but any streak falls apart in just 24 hours, and with the adjusted rules - thanks to hanagashore's great generosity and competitive spirit - just about 2/3rds of the competition period is ahead of us. So let's go Mefites, fix up your bike, and take your shot at a Garmin Edge 705 (desc).

The MetaFilter Music Challenge is back, (*cue triumphant fanfare, followed by sound of jubilant, cheering throng*) and suggestions for the monthly Challenge themes are open to all MeFiers. This means YOU! You are hereby encouraged, month by month, to offer suggestions, and if yours is chosen, not only will your name go up in lights at the Music page, but you'll also be the spark that ignites the creative genius of some MeFi Musician. A chance at a little slice of immortality! [more inside]

The Icycle challenge is nearing its end, and so far only 7 riders have scored. Surely we have more hearty soles willing to risk minor appendages for a MetaFilter bike sticker, and glory?

MetaFilter's August cycling challenge, week 1 standings. When wolfdog puts up his next century, it will all be over.. And, can anybody help me create a chart that dynamically displays the race?

I have an idea for a songwriting competition, and I think the musicians here are talented enough (and have the know-how / equipment) to pull it off. On a weekly or bi-weekly basis, someone (the winner of the last round) could post a challenge (ex: an old-school country waltz about flowers), then everyone who wants to compete could post their songs and the MeFites could vote. Opinions?

NikePlus is a site which allows people who own the nike running gizmo for iPods to compete on the net. After being narrowly beaten by the swift and nimble web-goddess in the first edition of MetaFilter Runs, we want to settle the score... If you want to compete in the next edition, put your nike+ login in the comments below, and I'll invite you to the challenge. (I've already sent an invitation to all the challengers who took part in the first edition.) Oh yes, the winning distance in the previous 'most miles in 30 days' was 54.9 miles. Pretty decent for a bunch of out of shape geeks... The challenge start next monday (3/12) at 12am CET.

Matt, Jess, could we have a formal announcement that posts consisting entirely of Youtube and Google Video links are automatically disqualified from consideration for December's grand prize? Please, please, please? They're beginning to spring up like crabgrass.

Last week's fundraiser became a sad debacle, and there's certainly no point retreading that ground. But I really like the idea of MeFites raising money for charity, and I think it's fun to make it a competition. I came up with an idea for a new, and hopefully friendlier and less divisive, contest for charity. I'd like to hear what you folks think. [more inside]
