The side-discussion about Macs here has made me curious about the % of mac users here as indicated by the mefi.com server logs. Can I get some user agent statistics?

From this to this - when Windows people are left out it's justified, when Mac users are left out it's a tragedy that must be addressed. Note: tongue firmly in cheek, I know these are two different users. I'm just feeling snarky.

MeFi's Eternal September is nigh, what with the holidays coming and Mac market share rising. Is there anything we can/should do to head off the inevitable flood of "I just got my Mac, now what?" questions that are already asked over and over in AskMe? [more inside]

I can't stay logged in! I log in, click on comments and am suddenly logged out. Or I'll log in and click from, say, Metafilter to Metatalk and I'm logged out again. Am using Safari 2.0.3, have logged out then deleted cookies and have reset Safari too. Same thing keeps happening. What can I do?

Tag feeds (like this one) in Ask MeFi don't work in NetNewsWire though they work in Safari. Can anyone duplicate this or offer me a solution?

I've tried clicking on this thread four or five times using firefox on mac. Every time it borks everything - it doesn't crash, but it becomes totally non-responsive (cannot change tabs, even). Is there something evil in there, or is this just one of those things?

Is there any way to curb the Mac vs. PC flamewars that always seem to erupt when there's a Mac-related FPP? I point to this versus this on today's front page, which makes the blue seem like sort of geek Hatfield/McCoy thing. Should we just ignore it until it goes away? Is there a solution at all? (This is my first MeTa post, and I didn't get far with the search function, so many apologies if this is an unanswerable question or has been thoroughly covered in the past.)

I've written MetaDash, a Dashboard plug-in that is an RSS reader for MetaFilter and Ask MetaFilter. I'd like to ask Mac OS X 10.4 users for your comments and suggestions for improvement...

MetaShillter: there's never been a deficit of accusations regarding the use of MeFi to push product. Many legitimate Best o' the Web posts contain product-related content. While it's clearly contra-Matt if you profit from a post, where's the fine line?

IE for Mac occasionally mangles posts with quotation marks, apostrophes, etc. For example: “Y’all must stay non-nuclear, but we’ll have as many nukes as we want. We’ll make new nukes but keep the old. And if you don’t like it, just take a good look at Iraq, because you could be next.

I can't post links within a thread on any of the Meta sites. I've seen how the text tools box appears under the comments box when using a PC at work. I'm using Explorer on a Mac running OS 8.6. Any ideas on how I can rectify this?

The white (ie the blue with the white option set) takes an age to display for me using IE on Mac OS 9 or X; far slower than it used to be. The status bar usually reads something about loading javascript/comments.js and activespell.js (IIRC) while I'm waiting.
Has something changed? Grey and green are fine.

I'm a big fan of Safari. Any chance of Matt, or any other programmers here, creating a MeFi sidebar for this browser?

In light of this discussion, and comments from matt... This thread seems to fit the bill for "not new" product announcement that only links to a marketing page. I know how much mac folks love their machines, but its not like this is the G5 announcement, right?

More than a few threads have had the css broken by tags like this: >
It completely kills the stylesheet in IE5 on mac. Anyone else notice this problem? Are these tags added by the person posting, or are they part of the server side processes? I've been irked by the digression to no left margin, default font mess the page becomes because of this.

Has it always been like this? In IE 5.1 for mac I am unable to select text on the FP, but I can select text on the sidebar. In Opera I have no problems. I am thinking of downgrading from 5.1 I have had many problems with it.

The 'Post' button for comments seems to have stopped working for me in Mac IE 5.1. The button is there, but it doesn't do anything.

I don't use blogger, so I don't know if this functionality exists elsewhere, but this looks pretty cool for blogger users on Mac OS 10.1.

Mac IE 5. Both the "Preview" and "Post" buttons on the link submittal are resolving post_preview.mefi today, resulting in an inabilty to actually post the link once I've verified that everything's hunky-dory.

In-thread graphics always get wonky on my Mac's Netscape. In this case, it's the Amazon graphic. Not only does it cover up other text, but it doesn't let me click on it. Any chance a plan-text link can be posted?

I'm using IE 4.5 for the mac, and I get this strange bug whenever I hit "... comments".
It happens like this:
The first time that I come to Metafilter on a particular day, if I click on "... comments" next to a post that someoen has put up, I get the various comments, and everything is normal up until the password form. In it, there's a bunch of "
The floating 'other blogs' palette does not work well at all in MSIE 5.0/Mac. When the home page first loads, it shows up on the left side of the page, obliterating much of the text of the links. Only when the page is finished loading does it move to its proper place on the right side.
Then, when paging up and down, the palette only draws down to about halfway through the "kottke" link. Yuck.

Oh the floaty thing is behaving really weird in IE5 for the mac, and not at all in Netscape 5/6 alpha/betas, so it's probably best to just dump it from your prefs if you're running one of those browsers.
