This AskMeFi question has 5 identical answers from 5 different users. Huh?
posted by tiamat on Aug 27, 2009 - 175 comments

This AskMe question was posted by "fairlysober", and a pointed response was posted by "prettydrunk". Both joined in the last couple of weeks and only have a 5 posts/comments between the two of them. How did prettydrunk happen upon his "extremely close friend of 10+ years" on a MeFi when he/she has no other method of getting in contact? Coincidence? Trolling? This doesn't pass the smell test.

What is the likelihood this would happen? Two unsensational, unrelated posts (1,2) on AskMe within six minutes of each other by america4 then america5. Weird.

I'm not sure if Tasty Like Your 9V Battery has taken IronLizard's advice to self post literally but 2 of their 3 comments ton MeFi before posting to the front page consist of "La." and 2 of their comments to MetaTalk are "I am just posting to this dead thread. La la la." and "La."

jonson/lilbrudder makes 2 posts within 15 minutes of each other. skallas 2001 revisited? Does jonson/lilbrudder get a pass?

This bugs me. It can't be coincidence, but what is really going on?

This stinks (and I know it was deleted), rinkjustice is supposedly raydexter's son. Although that might be true, the posting history in ask.me looks like ray is sockpuppet from the way the dates line up for the questions asked. They both have the same homepage in their profiles, and their answers and writing style line up as well. From his question in ask.me about his dad's comic promotion, it shows that he is involved in the success of the comic.

Funny once, hell yes. Funny twice, sure. Still funny some 60 odd times later? Ummm.

Is there even the least bit of humor left in the ghost of Ken Lay's shtick? I'd argue that even the best jokes can grow first stale, then tiresome, then positively annoying if overused. Think of all the characters that SNL has beaten to death over the years through overuse. Ghost, you're becoming the Church Lady. (I'd have taken this to email but none is listed in the profile. And if I am being a jackass, and everyone else is still holding their sides in laughter each time the Ghost speaks, then I humbly apologize and await chastisement.)

Hey Matt, you mention here that Steve@ had been (unfairly, in your opinion) banned, and that you were lifting the ban. But I ran into him over on the IRC channel, and he claims to still be locked out. He promised to admit to his role in helping steal Ohio in 2004 and swore to never do it again if I posted this.

When did the INS (DHS? ICE?) recognize the right of 21 year old virgin boys to marry British men and get them green cards?

I keep seeing sock puppets mentioned (for example, here) in various MeTa conversations, and I was wondering, since I don't want to go tunneling through all those mounds of... conversation; is there a canonical list of known sock-puppetry? For example, on the Wiki, or in a wing of MetaChat? I'm not talking about outing those who are still behaving or anything, but rather addressing the question in an "after the fact" sort of way.

matteo has repeatedly accused dios and me of being the same person, and casually attacks other users for politics they do not hold, including me. In his latest tirade, he calls me a "superhero of bad faith" and suggests that I retire to LGF or FreeRepublic. I'd like to publically ask him to stop. Thanks in advance.

Sock-puppet alert. joshuak asks a question and then logs in as alter-ego fearandloathing to ask another question. However, he forgot to change his identity back when he went back into the first thread to bitch that no one was telling him how to get a $40/hour job across the street from his house.

Did somebody forget to change sockpuppets, or is this a fake comment?

WHAT. THE. FUCK. MEAN MR. BUCKET? I really don't understand what is going on. Did MMB get hacked, or just discover Savage Love for the first time?

Attention: Per this thread, I have relinquished my puppet account, Voice of God.
It is now run by a long-time lurker who wishes to remain nameless. [MI]

Fun with statistics: I have always been curious to the percentage of "ghost accounts" on MeFi, and so today I decided to find out! I took a random sample of 263 (95% +/- 6) user accounts, and discovered that 61.2% of registered users have never commented or posted. Of the 38.8% who have posted, 45.1% have posted less than 10 comments, 42.2% have posted between 10 and 99 comments, and 12.7% have made more than 100 comments.

I was searching for a thread that I knew MiguelCardoso had posted. To find it I did a search on his name (Miguel). Turns out he is a master of disguise with no fewer than three registrations.... Tsk Tsk Miguel...(or imposters)...
Is there some way of cleaning things like this up, so some sign-up space can be created for new users?

he ehe hello.
um, following the thread regarding multple posts within 24hrs i shall make this a single post. which is probably about to be deleted.

1. has there been a case where one person has registered two names in order to argue against themselves? a kind of plato thing. how would that be spotted?

2. have i stumbled upon one of the must self affirming experiences of my life? i enjoy metafilter due to the quality of debate, i feel that there are other people *like* me. is this simply because of the thorough 'policing' of the site removing all 'trolls' etc? am i living in a dream-world where what you say is as important as how you say it?

well, anyhoo, i'd like to thank the community for it's strength and openess in these emotive times.
