Can we have an end of year competition for the best "Metafilter: Spoof tagline" comments? (e.g. MetaFilter: Squirrels, jesus, orange juice, or whatever.). It could link to lots of good threads, with the winner being decided by whoever gets the most favourites. My suggestion for a prize would be the magic ability to turn on img tags for a single unannounced 24 hour period of the winner's choosing, anytime in the next 12 months.

You know what someone more clever than me should do? They should cull all the " Metafilter: (insert quip here)" 's from the site that are found in so many posts. It'd be fun just to have them all, particularly out of context of the original thread. Then maybe another clever person could make a little randomizer java applet or firefox widget to make them appear on the top of the blue. That'd be nifty.

Is there a way to see an aggregate of all the silly one-liners where someone takes a comment from higher up in a thread and posts "Metafilter: Blah blah blah blah"? I tried the search page with the query "metafilter:" but it just dropped the colon and returned everything that had the word metafilter in it. This is probably a futile request but I thought maybe someone either had a hack or was collecting them offline somewhere for his/her own amusement.

It seems like metafilter has had the same few slogans on the main page for a long time. People always post funny suggestions for mefi taglines in the the threads, but they're never adopted.

Riffola: "I think that line should be on the new MeFi tee :)"

It seems like just about every thread someone has a new suggestion for a MeFi tagline or tee-shirt (and yes, I could have added a memepool style link to one with every word there). Anyway, why not vent the best ones here? Or do they all not-ready for prime-time, appearing once in a thread and disappearing forever?

no one requested it, but I always wanted to do random images on the main page. The following image shows all the current taglines that popup randomly. They're not all gold, but some of them will be around forever (especially the crack one). Can you think of others? Go ahead and suggest one.

I've been thinking of doing some MetaFilter t-shirts for a while now, just for shits and giggles (and to give away to frequent and eloquent posters to MetaFilter), but I need a slogan on the front or back. Anyone got any ideas? "It's your web, log it" is pretty lame. Can anyone think of something better?
