Is MeFi getting less international? This is entirely based on subjective impressions but it seems like we’re seeing a lot less posts outside of regular US waking hours. Is this just something that happens every 4 years because of all the election posts?

Can we please have an extra hour added to the server offset options in our profiles to give +21? Now that all the time changes have shaken out for the summer I'm an hour off. [more inside]

We added a bunch MeFi Mail updates that seemed worthy of a post here (and if you have more ideas maybe add them here) [more inside]

I love the new Activities page(s) in the user profiles, but the timestamps on comments and posts there aren't being adjusted for time zones. For instance, I see this comment of mine as having been at 10:16am (which is correct) on the AskMe page, but at 7:16am on my activity page.

Time zones are funny when previewing comments on AskMe. I have my time zone set at Central. When I use live preview, my comments appear with Pacific time. I did the cookies/logout deal, and it still does it.

MetaFilter around the Globe. I used to live in the USA on the east coast. Then on the west coast. Now I live in London. All this time I've been a MeFi user. Has anyone else noticed how different MeFi is at different times of the global day? For example, AskMeFi when it is the AM in London is pretty European and has loads of interesting questions. Once the global day hits the USA, loads of silly tech questions appear. Late in the USA night, we get some scandalous ones. OR is this all just my perception?

Posting to bugs, but not sure if there's something I'm missing - I can set my preferences to GMT or whatever the other abbreviation is, and this shows up on the MeFi front page but not on AskMeFi and MetaTalk. Am I missing something?

Time-zone custom settings don't work properly for AskMe or MeTa, you California-centric bastard.

"EST" = "Eastern Standard Time"; "EDT" = "Eastern Daylight saving Time"; "ET" = "Eastern Time" (no standard/daylight specified -- usually obvious which it is). It's to be expected that people will make these mistakes in FPPs and comments, but could you tweak the code so it doesn't say "EST" when it really doesn't mean "EST"? Rather than trying to come up with some code algorithm, or trying to remember to make the DST change every six months, just call it ET / CT / PT / etc and be done with it. A pet peeve of mine ...

It's currently 05:37 JST. Metafilter says it's 06:37 JST. I doublechecked, but the user configuration is correct: UTC + 9 hours. Is Mefi applying daylight savings time to Coordinated Universal Time, throwing off calculations?

Time Zones don't appear to have been mentioned much in recent times.
And I was wondering whether migration of time zone tweaking to MeTalk and AskMeFi would still be going ahead? I get so confuzzled down here at times.

I am in New Zealand, and we are on New Zealand Summer Time. UTC + 12 hours does not cut it - I need another hour. We start summer time early here, and finish it late, so this would make for many months of timezone happiness.
Just when you have time, mate.

MetaMystery: Something was funny about the FP (Front Page) of MeFi for me today: the date stamps on all the FPPs (Front Page Posts) were in Mountain Time (UTC-7) instead of the time zone I had specified, Pacific (UTC-8). Was that some Daylight/Standard time thing happening or did somebody figure out my password and change my specs? If so, please disregard any comments posted in my name so far today. Or is this really me posting this in MeTa? I get so confused.

Nearly a year and a half ago, number 1 gave us customizable time zones for Metafilter. I love it. I have innumerable cookie issues regarding resetting it all the time. But, that's not what I'm complaining about. (I'm not really complaining, either, just making a point, I guess..) In his original post, mathowie said, "MetaTalk, I'll eventually get to." As far as I can tell, it hasn't been gotten to yet. A quick search of Metatalk threads hasn't yielded results and I can't get the time zone to change even with a cookie reset. In addition, since AskMeFi is a subsection or something of MeTa, perhaps I could remind our fearless leader that that could be done as a part of the planned, future, wonderful AskMe upgrade. Just a thought.

Shouldn't this be PDT during daylight savings time?
Should I change my handle to analnewc2?

I've got AEST (UTC+10) selected as my time zone on MeFi - but it's an hour fast. Any idea why?

What's Metafilter Timezone? I live in Belgium (same time zone as Paris, Madrid or Amsterdam). I have observed that the Metafilter "midnight" is somewhere in what is my morning. Where is physiscally the server? In what time zone is Metafilter's midnight?

MetaFilter from the future. Says up at the top there (and on this post) that it's 1:41 PM PST. Not for another hour, I think. It is, however, 1:41 PM PDT.
