Happy Thanksgiving November 24, 2005 9:09 AM Subscribe
Happy Thanksgiving. I am thankful for the MetaCommunity, the ideas, the humor, the fun. Oh yeah.
I find this call-out pointless and rude.
Oh, wait -- never mind.
Happy Turkey day, too, should you celebrate that holiday. If not, well, carry on.

I meant to post a "What are you Thankful For post" on AskMe. but I wasted my chance with my Stairway covers thread. Seems like this is the right thread to ask, What are you thankful for?

I'm thankful for universal healthcare. AskMe has revealed to me all the problems that people face when they don't have it. Those stories have helped me appreciate it much more.

Thanks for the indigenous peoples ("Indians") who so conveniently died so that we could build a great nation, a veritable New Jerusalem, on the backs on forcibly imported agricultural workers ("Negro slaves").
Praise Jesus!
(And praise Jack Abramoff, for insisting that any "Indians" who paid him off got full sovereign rights to build casinos.)

While the whole Puritan/Indian thing is annoying, I do think that it's a good day for reflection- I was visiting with old friends last night, and we had one of those conversations that ran from W and the ridiculous state of the U.S., to carbon-fiber nanotubes and their potential role in fighting certain types of cancer, to the untruth in advertising re: iPod and .mp3 player storage, with religious, pop cultural, and all sorts of other topics thrown in.
I am thankful for intelligent conversations, the fact that I still have food to eat, and that I'm still surviving.
Oh, and MeFi is pretty cool too. [haven't been here in a while- I moved in August, and I still have no internet access. (posting from a friends' house).]

I'm thankful that, having moved to a new country four weeks ago, I spent this holiday with wonderful fellow expats who cooked a great fucking turkey, with brilliant stuffing inside. And that I didn't have to choose option B: hanging out with an ex (2 years ago), her mother, and her new boyfriend, all of whom happen to be in this country right now.
That and boo_radley's newest addition. Congrats!

I am thankful that I no longer live in the US so I don't have to fend of the well-intentioned but misguided people who insist on inviting me over to their wife's parents' friend's aunt's house so 'I wouldn't spend thanksgiving alone' as if the date had any special meaning to me in the first place so I wind up driving around looking for someplace to eat but everything is closed except for some skanky chinese restaurant where I'm the only patron and I can see why.

******claps for all the good news******
Now that the big day is over, I'm thankful:
The house is so squeaky clean and I can rest on myass laurels for awhile.
The food all came out perfectly but I didn't stuff myself.
I didn't drink too much.
I only have to see my in-laws about 6 times a year.
I never once said "cock-sucking, motherfucking son-of-a-bitch."
I have the kindest, most thoughtful, non-sports watching husband in the world who neither ate too much, nor drank too much, and happily dissed his family while rubbing my feet in bed.
Oh, and you guys too. I'm thankful for you all.
