MeFis on Nintendo DS? December 17, 2005 10:06 AM   Subscribe

I'd like to organize or provide space for MeFites with a Nintendo DS and one of the several WFC-enabled games (Animal Crossing, MarioKart, Tony Hawk) to share their friend-codes. Anyone else interested? I ache to race against people I'm connected to! I want to bring oranges to your villages!

I am 95% certain Kart will be in my Christmas stocking this year. I've put my (hopeful) Xbox 360 Gamertag into my profile and will do the same once I'm up on the DS games!

Thanks, panoptican. I looked there. I guess what I'm asking here is if there's a more general interest in a registry of some sort.

It's the last gasp of $5 Noob enthusiasm expressing itself before I resign myself to awkward and tone-deaf Pepsi Blue references and a life spent in anticipation of the perfect occasion to break out an "... it vibrates?" jibe.

I'm there, I've got Aminal Crossing (it's just not as cute to say "animal")

I'd be up for it.

Can I just have the oranges?

I'll be getting a DS from Santa this year, hopefully with Kart and Crossing, so I'm definitely interested. I'll update my profile with the info when I get it.

(But if you come to my village and start cutting down my trees and making a mess I will cut you)

I have grown weary of nothing but pear trees. Count me in, if only for the oranges.

I love the internet.

Couldn't you just post your 'friend-code' or whatever on your user page?

Maybe we could add a tagging system to users, so people could tag themselves, like 'nintendoDS' or whatnot.

You could just post your friend code, but that'd be best for looking up a specific MeFite and seeing if he/she has one posted. A directory of some sort would make it easier to just add a batch of folks and increase your chances of serendipitous Animal Crossing visits.

A friend I spoke to about this last night suggested using Google Base to do a directory of some sort. I kind of liked that idea.

I have oranges...

I'd be all for this. The tricky part though is tracking when people are online playing the game. A list of friend codes doesn't really help you much if you can't coordinate when to open your gates or go visiting (in Animal Crossing).

Synchronizing meetup times is an issue. I don't think there's any doing that part very easily.

For now, I've just slipped my info into my profile, figuring maybe building mass will help with achieving some chance for serendipity, if nothing else.

I've seen some people who announce times when they'll be receiving, though. Don't know if that would work very well with my, uh, jetset lifestyle.

For people who want to try out the online mode with strangers in Animal Crossing, i'd check out Animal Crossing Live which works really well. You basically say you want to leave your town, or have visitors, and it matches you with strangers.

I'm not sure if people still pay attention to old threads, but Metafilter users could create a team on DS Connect.
