Is there no room on metafilter for fun? April 1, 2006 6:59 PM   Subscribe

I noticed all of Eideteker's "APRIL FOOLS!" comments were deleted. Is there no room on metafilter for fun?
posted by Citizen Premier to MetaFilter-Related at 6:59 PM (58 comments total)

They weren't all deleted.

I think the posts were just deleted from the FPP's that were not, in fact, April Fools' jokes.

APRIL FOOLS on YOU!
posted by Eideteker at 7:11 PM on April 1, 2006

PS - I'm glad there are some people out there who weren't totally and irrationally upset (would it have been better if I wrote "HAPPY APRIL FOOLS!" instead?). Those who were, stay tuned—all will be clear by the day's end!

Congratulations. You pass the pattern recognition test.

Yes, there is.

I thought it was a delightful meta-joke, satirizing the pith of the holiday. It was a PoMotastic hilarathon! SENSATIONAL.

there's room, but the admins are working hard to get rid of it.

Until I saw he was doing it on MeCha, too, I was getting pretty close to the irrational hatred camp. But then I unclenched, and everything was alright again.

"Is there no room on metafilter for fun?"

Yes, but Eideteker's asshattery was crowding most of it out...

remember, I've got a lower user number than quonsar... and a bigger ass to kick...

If it makes anyone feel better, I've heard that Eide ended up regretting making a commitment to the stunt for the entire day. Yes, pissing people off continuously for 24 hours is not much fun (at least after Hour 16... hey, but don't take my word for it, ask Jack Bauer).

And remember to set pyramid termite back two feet for daylight shaving time.

Interestingly, this comment wasn't deleted, along with others which were a blantant violation of the whole "don't talk about other mefites" rule. Looks like an admin let irrational hatred get the best of him/her/it.

I hit my posting limit on /. as well. I've never been so glad to read so few websites before. Livejournal was the most fun. /. didn't even notice, really, which is what I expected to happen elsewhere. But not MeFi!

As for that "explains everything" comment? Fuck that. I hate making ominous pronouncements. Suffice to say, and FPP is in the works, and it will be relevant, so the hype, while unusual (and apparently disruptive? -Todd Lokken) will not be completely unfounded.

Normally we would, cyrusdogstar, but this is a leap year.

Dismissed by many as eccentric, Andy Eide's refusal to break character - to let the audience in on the joke - sometimes pushed his art over the edge. His performances were more avante-garde theater than traditional stand-up comedy. Offstage, he continued to push the limits of reality, and casual observers found it difficult to understand the real Andy Kaufman Eidetaker.

I would have thought this stunt was funny if it had been, you know, actually funny.

"Er, shouldn't we be setting them forward an hour? Spring forward, fall back?"

I've said it before, but that mnemonic is stupid. You can spring forward or backward and you can fall forward or backward. It's useless. That's why everyone should use my much improved replacement: "Spring up, fall down." You'll never "spring down" and you'll never "fall up" so there's no possibility of confusion.
posted by Ethereal Bligh at 10:38 PM on April 1, 2006

/me , perched on a treelimb above KMEB, waits for just the right moment, then springs down upon his prey.

As for falling up, well, we've seen enough zero gee scenes in them thar moving pictures.

YOUR APPLICATION FOR MNEMONIC PATENT IS HEREBY REJECTED.

How do you think they fill high ranking positions in the Bush Administration?

Ethereal Bligh : "you can fall forward or backward"

I always thought of "fall back" as the military sense of the phrase, i.e. "Retreat!!". Troops cannot fall forwards, so it never seemed too strange to me.

Sorry, Eideteker. I was just joking around, trying to fit in with your April Fools theme. When I said, "compare your work to [pretty_generic & dhoyt], then kill yourself", I really meant "go beg for attention by posting a suicide note on LiveJournal."

EB, we don't perceive time vertically.
posted by shmegegge at 8:42 PM on April 2, 2006

I perceive time like a flowing, rippling landscape with rolling hills and valleys, constantly changing like cloth blowing in the wind.

Down one of those canyons Eideteker is subjected to absurd amounts of repetitive intermediated psychological torture and sleep deprivation.

He's also taunted by various tasty snacks just out of reach and boobies he'll never touch..
