Right day, wrong century

Oh man, someone printed this calendar wrong; it's actually April 1, 1921, and it turns out we're all a bunch of French Dadaists. Nothing to do for it but play a little Exquisite Corpse I guess! [more inside]

Crouton Petting Over IP

crouton petting, n.
1. the state of feeling or expressing an anthropomorphized fondness, affection, or compassion for inanimate objects
2. the state of just literally petting some actual croutons
MetaFilter has only been able to accommodate that first definition (cf. this discussion among others)...until now. Thanks to recent improvements in both baking and recombinant genetics, we're happy to announce the opening of the world's first interactive Crouton Petting Zoo. [more inside]

MetaJokes Podcast 'April Fool's Edition'

Back in January we had a year end call-in show/podcast. MeFites were able to call a line that Cortex set up to record seasonal greetings and well-wishes. A fun way to connect and listen to all of the wonderful people that make up our community. A number of MeFites called in and told some humorous jokes/asides. I previously mentioned how it might be fun to have a specific call-in episode for just jokes that would then be released on April Fools' Day (April 1). I realize it's a bit of behind the scenes work for our moderators, but if they're open to it, I think it would be fun. Let's discuss whether we can make that happen.

Introducing the Faves & Flags roleplaying system

We've received a large volume of user complaints in the last few months about performance issues with our current version of reality, and so today we're rolling out some fantasy instead to see if that can help take the strain off. Please help us beta test this new initiative with the Faves & Flags Character Sheet Generator. Want more detail? Check out what little remains of the original game manual (or a more legible and screen-reader friendly OCR version here). [more inside]

April Last!

Just wanted to mention that the semi-official thread of this year's MetaFilter April Fool's Thingy (and the only one that continued to issue "staff tags" to every comment after April 1st was over) is going to be closing in a few hours. So if you haven't found out what your randomly-selected title is supposed to be, go there and leave a comment. (And if you don't like the tag you've been given, just refresh the page! It's so random!) [more inside]

April Frist!

It's only 10pm here in Albuquerque, but it's April 1st somewhere, so I'm giving everyone randomized (staff) tags in MetaTalk! Happy April!

Wiki April Fool's prank.

Ok, funs over, the wiki code was totally killing the box. I just might keep it up for shits and giggles at a different location.

MetaFilter as social experiment hoax by mathowie

Does anybody know where that fake page that mathowie put up a few years ago when MeFi was down is hiding? This is the one where he claims that Metafilter was a social experiment in AI and that the vast majority of the writers here were simply software constructs. This was right after he got on the cover of some magazine, and said it was just some actor..... Thanks.

Metafilter merges with Kuro5hin?!?

This was just posted to the front page. The part that captured my attention was the final paragraph...what exactly does this mean?

In related news, MetaFilter was said to be signing a merger agreement with Kuro5hin to pool content between the two sites. We'll bring you more news as soon as we hear it.
